PeeWees Drop Close One in Vegas...
Colorado - 2, Alliance - 1: Bulldog penalties continued to be a key factor in the Presidents Day Tourney in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Alliance fell for the 2nd time in 2 tries, this time against the Colorado Rampage on Saturday morning. After allowing 4 power play goals in Game 1, the Bulldogs allowed only 2 in this game, but it was enough for the Rampage to come away with a one-goal margin of victory. Alliance will try to stay out of the sin bin later Saturday when they go against the California Stars in the afternoon.

Monday, January 16, 2005 PeeWee AA2 Takes Down San Antonio in Friendship Contest…
Alliance - 7, San Antonio - 0: The Bulldogs continued their stellar play and momentum from a good game earlier in the weekend against Arapahoe, and pitched a shutout in a Friendship game win over the San Antonio Rampage Monday in Valley Ranch. As indicated by the score, the defense played extremely well, and the offense lit the lamp early and often. Alliance scored 3 times in the opening frame, and took their a 3-0 lead into the 2nd. They increased their margin to 4-0 with another tally in the 2nd period, and then finished strong with 3 more in the final period for the final 7-0 score.
Saturday, January 14, 2005 Bulldogs Earn Tie with Arapahoe...
Alliance - 3, Arapahoe - 3: Alliance jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but couldn't keep the big and skilled Arapahoe Warriors at bay log enough, and a very competitive and exciting Friendship game ended in a tie Saturday morning in Valley Ranch. The Bulldogs scrambled in and around the Arapahoe net the first 2 periods, and were rewarded with goals of the hard working variety. In the final period, the Warriors turned up the heat and scrambled themselves to earn the tie late in the game.
Tuesday, November 15, 2005 Dogs Drop Close One to Stars...
Stars - 3, Alliance - 1: The Bulldogs gathered on a cool, fall school night to face off against the Stars Select at Valley Ranch in a NTXHL game. The first period was very similar to the last meeting, with both teams starting strong and giving everyone in attendance a good demonstration of Texas youth hockey. The goalies closed the door on every attempt by the forwards to enter their house, and the 1st frame ended with goose eggs on the score board for both teams.
The 2nd period picked up were the 1st ended, with relentless attempts to enter the opposing teams house but the goalies were strong. The Dogs hard work paid off and they took a 1-0 lead on an even strength goal. The Stars did not like the young Bulldogs dominating, and when the Dogs found one of their own in the Dog House, the Stars took advantage and tied the score on a power play. Before the 2nd period ended, the Stars slipped a second goal into the Dog's house and took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Both teams entered the third period with a mission to dominate the remainder of the game, which gave the crowd all the competitive hockey they wanted. There were great breakaways and odd man rushes to no avail, due to quick back checking and superb goal tending. The opposing team had the stars shining on them late in the final frame, and with the man advantage were able to convert for their 2nd power play goal of the night and a 3-1 lead.
The final horn sound with the Bulldogs down 3-1, with both teams having played great youth hockey, and the parents on both ends of the ice given every reason to be proud of their kids. The Dogs will face off against the Houston Hitmen Saturday in a league make-up game prior to the Thanksgiving Break.
Saturday, November 12, 2005 Winning Goal Comes after Final Horn...
Alliance - 3, Texas`Aces - 3: The Bulldogs PeeWee AA2 team had a blind date Saturday night with the Texas Aces at ITC in their first NTXHL meeting. The Bulldogs played their best complete game of the season in classic Texas hockey style, and barely missed taking home the win by a mere second.
The first period started all Aces with an even strength goal at 12:25. Less than 4 minutes later, the Bulldogs cage was again opened with the second Aces even strength goal at 8:37 for a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs were not about to lay down and roll over on this warm Texas night, and with aggressive offense and a Sergei Zubov style defense, began to control the pace of the game. The Dogs' relentless efforts found pay dirt at 4:32 with an even strength goal to close the gap at 2-1. It took just 1 minute 41 seconds for the Dogs to bite a second time, with their second even strength goal at 2:51 to tie the game 2-2. The period ended with no advantage to either team, but the wind was seemingly blowing the Dogs way.
The second period was classic Texas Hold'em hockey, with neither team completely controlling, but you knew it was only a matter of time. The Bulldogs adjusted, as their coaches fine tuned their play, and at 3:09 left in the second took the 3-2 lead with an even strength goal. The Dogs were able to close out the period with a 1 goal lead over the Aces in a well played 2nd frame.
The third period continued to keep all in attendance on the edge of their seats. There were scoring chances for both teams, but great defense was taking over a the right time. The Aces evened the score at 6:10 with an even strength goal to make it 3-3. The Dogs and Aces knowing there were only minutes left in the game, and both dug deep, even though they were tired and played great back and forth hockey, keeping all of the anxious parents entertained.
The last seconds were ticking away on the clock with the Dogs attacking. A pass from the left corner found the tape of an open Bulldog in front of crease, and a one timer nailed the back of the net. The final horned sounded and all eyes were on the ref, waiting for the signal, was it in time or had time run out??? The call - no goal. Final score Bulldogs 3 Aces 3.
It was a great night of hockey, and both groups of kids were warmly greeted by their fans as they left the ice. The Dogs will have Sunday morning off, but will be back on the ice and have dry land in the afternoon as they prepare for NTXHL action Tuesday night against the Stars Select.
Saturday, November 5, 2005 PeeWee AA2 Drops Exhibition Game Late...
Dallas Stars - 9, Alliance - 2: The Bulldogs were in non league play on Saturday against the Dallas Stars major in a game that was fast and physical as soon as the puck dropped. The first 6 minutes caught the Stars by surprise that the pesky young Dogs could hang with the bigger and older Stars. The Stars found themselves down a man, and the Dogs took advantage scoring a power play goal at 7:30 to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Stars were able to finally crack the defensive wall of the Dogs, and scored an even strength goal with 2:08 left in the period. The last 2 minutes continued to keep everyone on the edge of their seat, but no one could penetrate the goalie cage and the period ended tied 1-1.
The second period picked up where the first period ended, with all in attendance entertained with great hockey. The Stars struck first at 11:34 with an even strength goal to go up 2-1. The Dogs were not done yet, and answered at 7:55 with a breakaway even strength goal to knot the score at 2-2. The next 3 minutes found the Dogs slowing down just a step, and the Stars took advantage in the last 4 minutes of the period scoring 3 quick goals and taking a 5-2 lead into the 3rd period.
The final frame found the Dogs working hard, but playing with a short bench finally caught up with them. The Bulldogs skated stride for stride with the Stars through the first half of the final period. The Stars slowly wore down the Bulldogs, and were finally able to put a puck in the net even strength at 8:18. The Bulldogs continued to work hard, but the Stars managed to score 3 more times before the final horn sounded.
The team showed well the first 25 minutes, but the short bench had an effect later in the game. The Bulldogs had little time to lament their loss, as they had practice later the same day to continue their conditioning and game management.
Saturday, October 29, 2005 Bulldogs Fall to Ice Hawks...
Ice Hawks - 4, Alliance - 0: The Bulldogs headed west to their old home ice in Euless Saturday night to play the Dallas Ice Hawks, the first NTXHL meeting of these 2 peewee teams. There are some nights when you should have stayed home, and this was one of those nights for the Dogs. The Ice Hawks got on the board early with an even strength goal at 13:52 to take a quick 1-0 lead.
The scoring chances for the Dogs were limited the remainder of the 1st period, with 4 penalties over the last 10 minutes of the period. The Dogs cage remained closed, even though it was peppered by a flurry of little black biscuits. The period ended with the Hawks some how only flying with a 1-0 advantage.
The second period found the Dogs again on their hind paws, and the Hawks swooping continuously at their goal. The Hawks finally broke the lock on the cage with an even strength goal at 4:06. They quickly struck again 32 seconds later to take a 3-0 lead. The Dogs were able to close the gate, and the period came to a close with the Hawks soaring higher on a 3-0 advantage and a shot differential of 44 to 8.
The break between the 2nd and 3rd periods found the Bulldogs searching for answers, and their coaches continuing to make adjustments with the young team. The night continued to favor the Hawks, as they kept the Bulldogs on their back paws, and limited any scoring chances. The Ice Hawks swooped in for a even strength goal at 13:35 to stretch their lead to 4-0. The last 11 minutes of the 3rd period was busy for the penalty box concierge, with 7 players in the pokey.
The game ended with the Hawks flying high on a 4-0 win. The Bulldogs will have a few hours rest before their 6AM practice and a chance to work on the things that went wrong, and further develop the things they did well. The next NTXHL game is not until Saturday November 12 against the Texas Aces.
Sunday, October 23, 2005 PeeWee AA2 Drops 2 in NTXHL Action ...
Tulsa - 4, Alliance AA2 - 3: The Bulldogs had a hard day on Sunday at the Lone Star Wolves' NTXHL host weekend at Polar Ice in Grapevine Mills. The Bulldogs dropped a real close one to the Tulsa Flames in their first game of the day, and bowed out to the Ice Jets '93 AA in the "night cap". Alliance will try to regroup and get a win this next Saturday, when they will face the Dallas Ice Hawks in Euless.
Ice Jets '93 AA - 6, Alliance AA2 - 0: In the Bulldogs final game of the NTXHL weekend, they faced the Ice Jets '93 AA for the first time. The Dogs were clearly undersized compared to the all 93 team, but that did not prevent our Dogs from giving their all in a hard fought game. The Bulldogs were a little timid due to the size of the Jets, and within the first 3 minutes the Jets had scored 3 even strength goals. Alliance coaches made a few quick adjustments, and the Dogs regrouped and cooled the Jet's engines, and defense took over. The Jets did not like the younger Bulldogs controlling the game, and before the period was over had 5 penalties in an 8 minute span. The Bulldogs power play could not convert and the period ended 3-0 Jets.
The second period was a cleaner period of hockey with solid defense from both teams. The Jets finally got through the door and scored an even strength goal at 3:44. They scored again 16 seconds later and a final score at 39 seconds to take a 6-0 lead into the final break. One must assume the older Ice Jet players got frustrated that the younger Dogs were able to play hard-hitting aggressive hockey, and kept them from scoring.
At the 7:33 mark the Jets got their first penalty, and before the period was over, had put a total of 6 players in the box. The Dogs power play again failed them but not for lack of effort. The 3rd period was scoreless for both teams, and the Jets were seen "leaving on a jet plane" with a win. The Bulldogs played well, and will assemble Tuesday for the coaches to continue the development into proud hockey players and good kids.
Saturday, October 22, 2005 PeeWee AA2 Falls to Wolves in NTXHL Action...
LS Wolves - 7, Alliance AA2 - 1: The Bulldogs started their 4 game weekend with an early morning rumble against their cousins the Lone Star Wolves Major, kicking off the Wolves' NTXHL host weekend at Polar Ice in Grapevine Mills. The Dogs showed barking, only to find a pack of Wolves growling at the door. The first period found the younger Dogs against a older and bigger Wolf pack. Just over a minute into the game, the Wolves ganged up on the Bulldogs with a man advantage opportunity, but were unable to convert. The Wolves, however, continued to pressure and at 10:20 found the back of the cage to go up 1-0.
The Wolf pack quickly regrouped, and at 8:29 took a second bite out of the Dogs to take a 2-0 lead. The Dogs had to kill off 2 penalties late in the period, which limited their chances of scoring, but they were able to hold the Wolves at bay and the 1st period ended 2-0 Wolves.
The second period kept the refs busy with a total of 8 penalties, but there were no power play goals. The Dogs continued to be nipped at by the Wolves, and two more even strength goals were added by the Wolves before the Dogs got on the board. With time running out, the Wolves took one more bite out of the Dogs, and the 2nd period ended with the Dogs wounded and down 5-1.
The 3rd period found a revived Bulldog team that came out tough. Penalties were dominant, with 12 of the 15 minutes played short handed, 6 by the Dogs and 6 by the Wolves, but the penalty killing units stepped up and again no power play goals were scored. Unfortunately, during the transition to full strength, the Bulldogs were caught out of position twice, leading to the only scores of the period, 2 even strength goals by the Wolves. The final horn sounded with the Wolves howling louder than the Dogs were barking, taking home a 7-1 win for the host association.
The scheduled Houston Hitmen game was not played, as their bus broke down on the way to Dallas. That game will be rescheduled for a future date. The Bulldogs will try to come back stronger on Sunday, as they face the Tulsa Flames and the Ice Jets '93 AA.
Sunday, October 16, 2005 PeeWee AA2 Drops Tough One to Tulsa...
Tulsa - 4, Alliance AA2 - 2: The Bulldogs got back into NTXHL action Sunday afternoon in Valley Ranch after a weekend of tournament play in Michigan. The Tulsa Flames crossed the Red River in hopes of avenging OU's loss to UT, and even though some Sooners would disagree, their mission was accomplished. Both teams came out tough with lots of bodies flying around, and a good clean period of hockey. When the defense is so sound on both ends of the ice, it is hard for the offense to flourish, and the 1st period ended scoreless.
The second period continued as the first ended, with the Dogs and Flames locked in a defensive struggle. The Flames found a gap in the Dogs defensive wall at the 7 minute mark with an even strength goal to take a 1-0 advantage. The Bulldogs had the only power plays of the period at 14:25 and again at 6:37, but were unable to convert and the period ended with the Bulldogs down 1-0.
The Flames heated things up as soon as the puck dropped in the 3rd, and just 1 minute 10 seconds into the period they burned the Bulldogs with an even strength break away goal to go up 2-0. The Bulldogs answered at 10:01 with their own even strength goal to make it a 1 score game at 2-1 Tulsa. The Flames, unfortunately, won the center ice face off and took only 7 seconds to put a security goal on the scoreboard to go back up by 2 at 3-1. The Bulldogs went down a player at the 9:15 mark, and the Flames took advantage, scoring their 4th goal with only 2 seconds left in their power play to go up 4-1.
The home team did not lay down, and with aggressive play in front of the net, scored with 2:58 remaining to bring it to 4-2 Tulsa. The hopes of a Bulldog come back diminished, when at 2:21 the Dogs went down a player. The Dogs power play killing unit kept the Flames from scoring but were unable to get a short handed goal of their own. The final horn sounded, sending the Tulsa Flames home with a 4-2 win.
The Bulldogs have a practice Tuesday night, to prepare for a NTXHL weekend with games against the LS Wolves Major and Houston Hitmen on Saturday at Polar Ice in Grapevine. Sunday will start with a rematch against the Tulsa Flames, and finish with our Valley Ranch rivals the Ice Jets '93 AA team.
Friday, October 7, 2005 Bulldogs Drop Game 1 at Great Lakes...
Motor City - 4, Alliance AA2 - 1: The Alliance Peewee AA2 team faced a good team in the Motor City Mechanics, and despite playing well, the Bulldogs came out on the short end of the stick in Game 1 of the Great Lakes Tournament in Holland, Michigan on Friday night. After a scoreless 1st period, the Bulldogs jumped out to a short-lived 1-0 lead early in the 2nd frame.
The Mechanics then got to work, scoring 3 unanswered goals to re-take the lead and carry a 3-1 margin into the 3rd and final period of play. Motor City would add another insurance goal in the final period for the 4-1 score. The Bulldogs will need to recover quickly, as the play again early Saturday morning against the Glenview Stars of Illinois.
Saturday, October 1, 2005 Alliance Falls to Bulldogs?!?
Alliance AA1 - 7, Alliance AA2 - 0: It was clear from before the game started that Alliance would win this one, but which Bulldog team would get the win was to be determined on the ice. The Alliance Peewee AA teams faced off for the second time this season, this time in their first NTXHL meeting. The Alliance PeeWee AA1 team took this one to raise their league record to 2-1-0 on the season.
The in-house games between the older PeeWee AA1 kids and the younger PeeWee AA2 players is developing into a classic sibling rivalry. As with any older vs younger family outing, the experienced had the upper hand again, but the younger kids are developing, and there is an entire season for the younger group to mature, develop, and strive to overcome their older sibs.
The AA1 team showed it's maturity during a power play, and found the back of the net with a man advantage tally at 10:22 of the 1st period. To the surprise of the older kids, the pesky younger team put up a stout defense and the period ended with the AA2 kids down 1-0. The speed and size of the AA1 team began to add up, and the second period was not as kind to the younger team. The AA1 scored early at 10:01 with a slap shot from the left circle to take a 2-0 lead. The older kids took advantage of a hooking penalty, and scored their 3rd goal at 7:46 on the power play. Two quick even strength goals at 6:18 and 6:10 found the AA2 team in a hole down 5-0. They would not give up, and kept the AA1 at bay the remainder of the period and the 2nd period ended with ALLIANCE in the lead 5-0.
The AA2 continued to fight and came out with a good effort early in the 3rd. Shots on goal were close, with neither team able to slip the puck past the goalie until the 7:33 mark when the AA1 again found the back of the net to take a 6-0 advantage. The younger team, as in any family, would not give up and fought hard the remainder of the 3rd period with it's defensive efforts paying off by keeping the AA1 from scoring...almost. With 27 seconds left, the older kids found a hole in the defensive wall of the AA2 and scored the final goal of the game to seal an ALLIANCE win with the final score 7-0.
The AA2 team knows they are the younger sibling, and that the older AA1 team can beat up on now, but are determined to continue their development and may yet surprise their older housemates before the season ends. In the meantime the AA2 have to move on and prepare to travel to Holland, Michigan October 7-9 to play the Ann Arbor Wolves, Motor City Mechanics, and the Glenview Stars in the Great Lakes Tournament.
Saturday, September 24, 2005 Bulldogs Drop Scrimmage Game...
The Penguins finally got the puck past the Dogs defense at 2:38 at even strength, and took a 2-1 lead. The 1st period ended with the Bulldogs down 2-1. The second found both teams in the penalty box 4 times, with each team's penalty kill units able to rise to the challenge, keeping the puck on the ice and out of the net. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Penguins were able to score 2 even strength goals in the last 2 minutes of the period and the Dogs were down 4-1 as the second period horn sounded.
Sunday, September 18, 2005 Bulldogs Drop NTXHL Opener...
Houston Hitmen - 4, Alliance - 2: In their first NTXHL action and first game of the season, the Bulldogs faced a team projected to be one of the toughest PeeWee AA teams in the NTXHL this season, as they squared off against the Houston Hitmen at Valley Ranch on Sunday afternoon. The first period found the Bulldogs adjusting to the size and speed of the Hitmen, but the Alliance defense held tough and allowed only an even strength goal at 7:40 of the first period. The 1st period ended with the Bulldogs down 1-0.
The second period started fast, but the Alliance team made a few adjustments during the break and started moving the puck with more confidence. The Hitmen, however, found the back of the net at 10:50 with a slap shot at even strength from mid ice to take a 2-0 lead. The Dogs would not lay down against a bigger Houston team, and as a result of hard work behind the net scored an even strength goal 46 seconds later at 10:04 to make it a 1 goal game at 2-1 Houston. The last half of the period unfortunately belonged to the Hitmen, as they scored another even strength goal at 3:15 followed by a power play goal at 2:36. The period ended with the Dogs down 4-1.
The Alliance coaches made the most of the time between periods, and the Dogs came out with an attitude. The defenses for both teams stepped up, and the 3rd period was scoreless until 6:30 when the Bulldogs at even strength shot from the top of the left circle, and before the Houston goalie could react, the puck was resting in the back of their net. The remainder of the game was aggressive defensive hockey and the final horn found the Dogs down 4-2.
This young team should be proud of it's spirit and effort against a good Houston team and will begin preparing for NTXHL action Saturday October 1st against our own Alliance Peewee AA1 team.
