Frozen Four Contest - Down to the Championship Game

Well, the long trip has finally come to down the final 2 teams for the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship, and it will be the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota against the Pioneers of Denver University playing for all the marbles Saturday night.

If North Dakota wins, it will be one set of 3 people placing 1st , 2nd, and 3rd, and if Denver wins, it will be a completely different set of 3 people.  For the Frozen Four Bracket and Contest, click HERE...

Saturday, April 2, 2005  NTXHL Playoffs...

PeeWee A - Alliance 1, Duncanville Dragons 5:  After a late Friday night NTXHL Playoff  game, the Bulldogs were back on the ice Saturday morning looking to "slay" those Dragons from Duncanville.  The Dragons ended up winning the game but the final score was not indicative of the play by the Bulldogs.  Read more HERE...

Friday, April 1, 2005   NTXHL Playoffs...

PeeWee A - Alliance 2, Texas Aces-White 3 (OT):  The Bulldogs faced off against the Aces-White in their second playoff game of the NTXHL Playoffs in Duncanville Friday night, and like their first playoff game, this game would also go to overtime.  The outcome would be different though, as the Aces would edge the Bulldogs in OT.  Read more HERE...

Friday, April 1, 2005   Update on National Championships...

It was a great season, but the run for a National Championship ended for the Alliance teams at the USA Hockey Nationals, as all 3 teams fall in their final pool games.   The competition was extremely tough, and the Bulldogs made us proud, as they played each game close and were never out of it until the last day.   Box scores, standings, and updates on other games can be seen via the USA Hockey links HERE...

Bantam AAA: Alliance - 0, New Jersey Rockets - 3The Bulldogs hung tough, got a great goaltending performance, and made the Rockets earn every goal they got, but were not able to muster any offense themselves and bowed out of the USA Hockey National Championships Friday in Bensenville, Illinois.   In a penalty filled contest that featured no less than 16 power plays, the Bulldogs held the Rockets to only 1 for 9 on the man advantage to keep it within reach.  Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AA: Alliance - 1, Brick Green - 3The Bulldogs played well again today, but same as yesterday, they once again faced one of the top teams from the northeast part of the country at the USA Hockey National Championships in Richmond, Virginia. The Brick Green team from New Jersey gave the Bulldogs fits, but the Alliance defense and goaltending was up to the task, keeping it a 1-1 game until only 2:38 remained.   Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AAA: Alliance - 3, New Jersey Devils - 4:  Facing a very good team when they're playing well was the task at hand for the Bulldogs Friday at the USA Hockey National Championships, and they matched the Devils play for play until late in the game when New Jersey would score to take the win.   The second 1-goal loss of the tournament for Alliance eliminated them and kept them from moving on to the Quarter-Final Round as they had hoped to do.   Read more HERE...

Thursday, March 31, 2005   Update on National Championships...

Second day at the USA Hockey Nationals was better, as Alliance teams went 1-1-1 to stay in contention.  The Alliance all-time playoff overtime record in National bound competition still remains undefeated, as 2 more games went to an extra period of play, with 1 win and 1 tie to extend the AYHA overtime record to 9-0-1.  As previously stated, Alliance game reports can be seen here, but other game updates can be seen via the USA Hockey links HERE...

Bantam AAA: Alliance - 5, Long Island - 8The Bulldogs fell behind early, and trailed 3-1 at the end of the 1st period, then 6-2 after 2 periods and could never get within striking range of the Royals in Game 2 of the USA Hockey National Championships in Bensenville, Illinois.   The New York State Champions scored in the first minute of the game on a power play, got an even strength tally just a minute and a half later, then added a shorthanded goal for a 3-0 lead before the Dogs could get on the scoreboard.   Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AA: Alliance - 3, Bud Bakewell - 3 (OT)The Bulldogs played much better today, but they had to, as they were facing a team ranked #1 in one National Ranking, and very much one of the favorites coming into the USA Hockey National Championships in Richmond, Virginia.

Alliance was out-shot by a 2 to 1 margin, but they made the most of their chances to gain an overtime tie and remain in contention to advance with a win on Friday.  Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AAA: Alliance - 6, Rochester - 5 (OT):  In a battle of special teams, the Bulldogs came out ahead in this one, but had to go the extra time to get the OT win in Game 2 of the USA Hockey National Championships in Bensenville, Illinois.   After being victimized themselves by the power play twice in the 1st period, Alliance would come up with 4 of their own man advantage goals, including the game winner just over 3 minutes into sudden death.   Read more HERE...

U16AAA Girls:  Dallas residents Dru Burns ('91, Alliance Bantam AA) and Cheyenne Bojeski (sister of Alliance Midget Major AA player Garan Bojeski) helped their team, the Colorado Select U16AAA Girls, to their 2nd victory in the USA Hockey National Championships in Centennial, Colorado.  Cheyenne had 2 goals in their 4-1 win over the New Jersey Colonials.   They come back on Friday against the Cal Selects in their final game of pool play.

Other Activities at the National Championships...

The main event is definitely the hockey, but there are a few other activities at the National Championships that also make it fun and help pass the time between the games.

The Opening Ceremonies are a traditional event that draws the big crowds, along with the Easton Skills Competition that follows it.

The Alliance players once again sported their cowboy hats for the 2nd year in a row, in what will hopefully become a familiar site at future Opening Ceremonies.

Of course, no event like this would be complete without a huge meal for all the players and families, and this year in Richmond, Virginia it was a giant Bar-B-Que feast.

Wednesday, March 30, 2005   Update on National Championships...

Tough 1st day at the USA Hockey Nationals, as all 3 Alliance teams fall in their respective Games.   Alliance apologizes for the lack of information on Nationals the last couple of days, but we have had a problem accessing our web site.  Please bear with us as we work through the problem.  In the meantime, USA Hockey limits the amount of information we can post here, but does a great job posting information on their web sites.  Updates can be seen via the USA Hockey links HERE...

Bantam AAA: Alliance - 2, California Wave - 7The Bulldogs are the first Texas Bantam Tier I team to ever advance to the USA Hockey National Championships, but they found the going very rough in Game 1 against the Pacific District Champions from California.   After the first 11 minutes, it was 1-1 and things looked OK, but then the Wave added 2 quick goals to take a 3-1 lead after one period, with more to come in the 2nd frame.   Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AA: Alliance - 4, Las Vegas - 5You have to bring your game and then some to the USA Hockey National Championships, but the Bulldogs left theirs on the tarmac at DFW Airport in Dallas as they just played poorly in their Game 1 loss to the Outlaws, Pacific District Champions.   The first 30 seconds of the game were a bad sign of things to come, as a misplayed puck behind the Alliance net led to an empty net goal and a 1-0 lead for Las Vegas less than a minute into the game Alliance would continue to fight back each time the Outlaws took the lead, but were never able to go ahead themselves.   Read more HERE...

Midget Minor AAA: Alliance - 2, California Wave - 4:  Facing a team ranked above you when you're ranked 5th in the Nation means you are in for a tough battle, and for the 3rd time this season, the Bulldogs were not able to keep up with the Wave in Game 1 of the USA Hockey National Championships in Bensenville, Illinois.   After a scoreless 1st period, the Bulldogs looked like they might reverse their previous fortunes against the Wave as they took a 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the 2nd period.   Read more HERE...

Another Alliance connection to the National Championships...

The Boys on the teams above are not the only Alliance players participating in the USA Hockey National Championships, as Alliance Bantam AA Defenseman Dru Burns is playing for the Colorado Select U16AAA Girls team competing for the National Championship in Centennial, Colorado.  Cheyenne Bojeski, sister of Alliance Midget Major AA player Garan Bojeski, is a forward on the team as well.   Dru had an assist and Cheyenne had a goal in their 3-1 win over the Syracuse Stars in Game 1, and they come back on Thursday to play the New Jersey ColonialsGirls can win championships, too...

NTXHL Playoffs...

PeeWee A - Alliance 3, Junior Stars 3:  Let the Games begin! Playoffs that is.  Wednesday night in Euless the Bulldogs and Jr. Stars met to claim their first "W" of the NTXHL Playoffs.  As always, these two teams match up very evenly and this game outcome would be no different.

The game didn't start out close, though, as the Jr. Stars jumped out early scoring an even strength goal within several minutes of the start of the game.  Despite having one power play opportunity that was shorted, the Bulldogs found themselves on the penalty kill three times towards the end of the period and at 1:09 left, the Jr. Stars capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play and scored to make it 2-0. The Jr. Stars dominated play in the first period and out shot the Bulldogs 13 to 2.  Read more HERE...

2005-2006 Alliance Bulldogs expand to 9 Teams…

Alliance is please to announce teams for the 2005-2006 Season.  We will continue to build upon the success we have had in the past at the highest competitive levels, and introduce a new Development Program at the Squirt level.

Our Midget Major and Midget Minor teams will continue to work closely with the Dallas Stars Midget Major AAA club coached by Dwight Mullins, developing and placing players in situations and competitive environments that will allow them the opportunities to achieve their hockey goals.

All of our teams from the PeeWee level and up will play very competitive schedules, including Tier I AAA competition and tournament play, culminating with State, District, and National Championship play at the Tier Levels indicated below.

18U Midget Major Tier II AAA/AA

16U Midget Minor Tier I AAA

16U Midget Minor Tier II AAA/AA

14U Bantam Tier I AAA

14U Bantam Tier II AAA/AA

12U PeeWee Tier II AA

12U PeeWee Tier II AA

Jr. Bulldog AA Development ProgramAlliance is also pleased to introduce our new Junior Bulldog AA Development Program at the Squirt level.  Alliance recognizes this as a critical age for beginning the proper development of the youth hockey player who has aspirations of competing at the higher levels when they get older.

With that in mind, we will have experienced Alliance coaches lead these teams in their development and competition throughout the season.  Our Midget and Bantam Coaches will team together, 2 per Squirt AA team, to provide the coaching and training of these players in each practice and game during the season.  We will field two (2) AA teams in this program:

Squirt AA - Team 95

Squirt AA - Team 96

2005-2006 Tryouts…

Tryouts for the 2005-2006 Teams indicated above will be held at Valley Ranch starting on Saturday, April 30th.  We expect that each age group will skate twice per day the first 2 days, Saturday and Sunday.  The number of players will be reduced following the last skate on Sunday, followed by additional sessions for the smaller groups Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The exact schedule with times and age groups will be published in the next few days, and on-line registration will begin at that time.

Tryouts Start - Saturday April 30th

Tryouts End - Wednesday May 4th

Times and details to follow shortly…

2005-2006 Coaches…

Due to our enormous success at the Rocky Mountain District Championships - with our Bantam AAA, Midget Minor AA, and Midget Minor AAA teams continuing on to compete at the USA Hockey National Championships, and our PeeWee A team still competing in the NTXHL Playoffs, Alliance will not be announcing the 2005-2006 coaching staff until Friday April 8th.

After much discussion, we have decided to stay with our previous guideline of not naming a new coaching staff until the end of the current season.  The announcement of the coaching staff for the 2005-2006 season will be in plenty of time for players and parents to make plans for the upcoming tryouts.  We appreciate the interest in wanting to know this information as soon as possible, but we also want to keep Alliance coaches and players focused on the upcoming Championships.

Sunday, March 13, 2005    Update on District Championship Games...USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championships

Midget Minor AAA Advances to Nationals with 3-2 Overtime Win over Outlaws!!!

U16:  Final in OT.......Midget Minor AAA - 3, Colorado Outlaws - 2:  Another 3-2 OT win makes it 5 for 5 for Alliance in overtime games in the RMD Championships, and this was as dramatic as it gets in a Championship Game.   Starting the extra period shorthanded for the first 30 seconds was even more gut wrenching than ending the 3rd period with 1:30 of penalty kill, but the Bulldogs quickly put an end to the suspense by scoring the game and Championship winner just 55 seconds into OT for the 3-2 victory.  Read more HERE...     Video of the Game Winner HERE...     Tournament Photos HERE...

Bantam AAA Advances to Nationals with 4-2 Win over Thunderbirds!!!

U14:  Final Score.....Bantam AAA - 4, Colorado Thunderbirds - 2:  The Bulldogs beat the Thunderbirds when it counted the most, and as a result, become the first Texas Bantam Tier I team to ever advance to the USA Hockey National ChampionshipsAlliance knew coming in that it would be a tough game, based on their Game 1 5-3 loss to these same Thunderbirds, and came out strong by taking a 1-0 lead about halfway into the 1st period.  Colorado came to play as well, and did not let the lead last very long as they tied it up at 1-1 just over a minute later with 7 minutes remaining in the period.  Read more HERE...   Tournament Photos HERE...

Midget Minor AA Advances to Nationals with 3-2 Win over Phoenix!!!

U16:  Final Score.....Midget Minor AA - 3, Phoenix Firebirds - 2:  These Bulldogs were tired and worn out from their extended efforts in the double overtime win in the Semi-Finals last night, and it showed.  They also played the first 10 minutes without one forward, then lost another one for the game early in the first, and had another one take a slash on his bare hand for a broken thumb.  But what showed the most was that Champions fight through adversity and find a way to win and that's what these Bulldogs are - CHAMPIONS!  Read more HERE...

Other Tier II Championship Game: USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championships

U18:  Final Score.....Midget Major AA - 4, Colorado Springs Tigers - 7:  The Bulldogs made it into the Championship Game undefeated at 4-0 for the tournament, but not without having paid a high price.  Having played 3 overtime games in the last 3 days, the energy that they had was just not there today when they needed it, and Alliance falls in the Final to a very good Colorado Springs Tigers club they had defeated earlier in one of the 3-2 OT wins.  The Bulldogs kept it within reach until the Tigers took a 5-3 lead late in the 2nd period, and when Colorado Springs scored again to make it 6-3 early in the 3rd, it was looking tough from that point on.   The Bulldogs end an impressive run late in the season when they won 20 of their last 23 games and finished with an overall season record of 37-17-3.

Other Alliance Game...

PeeWee A - Alliance 3, Duncanville Dragons 7:  The Bulldogs lose to the Dragons in their last regular NTXHL season game Sunday in Duncanville.  The first period was all Dragons who jumped out early in the game scoring 2 even strength goals, with the first goal going in early at 14:18 left, the second at 6:27 left.

The Dragons continued their dominating play into the second period by scoring their third goal at 7:23 left for a 3-0 lead.   Minutes later the Bulldogs found themselves on the power play, but it was shortened with a penalty of their own in which the Dragons capitalized, and scored their fourth goal at 1:41 left.  The Bulldogs didn't give up, and got on the board right at the end of the period scoring their first goal with 8.9 seconds left to make it 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period.

Saturday, March 12, 2005    Update from Regionals...USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championships

Tier I Pool Games:

U14:  Final Score.....Bantam AAA - 5, Phoenix Firebirds - 2:  This was an elimination game, and early on, the Firebirds showed they came to play.  But after falling behind 1-0 early, the Bulldogs rallied to get the win and advance to the Championship Game on Sunday morning at 10:15 AM MST against the Colorado Thunderbirds.  The Thunderbirds rallied themselves to beat the 'Dogs 5-3 in Game 1 of the tournament, but Alliance knows they can play with the boys from Colorado and plan to make the Final a game to remember.

U16:  Final Score.....Midget Minor AAA - 4, Phoenix Firebirds - 5:   In a game that was meaningless in the determination of the Sunday finalists, the Bulldogs lost their passion as they let the lead slip away and dropped their final game of Pool play.  The lead changed hands 4 times as each team would take the lead and then lose it shortly thereafter.  With Alliance holding a 4-3 lead in the 3rd period, the Firebirds scored twice to re-take the lead and held on for the win.  The Bulldogs knew coming into the game that they had already secured a spot in the Championship game against the Colorado Outlaws on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM MST.

Tier II Semi-Finals:

U14:  Final Score.....Bantam AA - 1, Chandler Polar Bears - 5 (Semi-Finals):  The Bulldogs found themselves behind early and spent the rest of the game trying to play catch-up, but to no avail as they bow out of the RMD Championships in the Semi-Finals late Saturday night.  Falling behind 2-0 after the 1st period and then 4-0 after the 2nd, the 'Dogs were never able to muster the game they had against the Polar Bears earlier in the day.  They end a great season with an impressive 33-19-6 record.

U16:  Final in 2OT....Midget Minor AA - 2, Arapahoe Warriors - 1 (Semi-Finals):  In the 3rd Alliance overtime game of the week, this one was for elimination and thinking about next year for the team pulling the puck out of their net, and boy did they play like it.  Fortunately, the Alliance boys were the ones celebrating after this game that lasted close to 70 minutes, including almost 17 of those minutes being of the sudden-death double overtime variety.  The game winner was typical of the way the game was played throughout - tough defense, going hard to the net, and paying the price for an opportunity to score.  Read more HERE...

U18:  Final in OT......Midget Major AA - 3, Montana - 2 (Semi-Finals):  The Majors were not about to be out-done by the Minors, so they went to overtime for the 3rd time themselves in this tournament, and same song, 3rd verse as they won again 3-2 in OT and advance to the Championship Game on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM MST against the winner of the Colorado Springs-Polar Bears game still under way.   Read more HERE...

Tier II Pool Games:

U14:  Final Score.....Bantam AA - 3, Chandler Polar Bears - 0:  The Bulldogs played their best game of the tournament thus far, and the shutout win earned them a spot in the Semi-Finals against these same Jr. Polar Bears later tonight.  Tight defense, good goaltending, and timely scoring was the order of the day in this victory over the host team.

U16:  Final Score.....Midget Minor AA - 2, Arapahoe Warriors - 4:  Turnovers and missed opportunities were the downfall of the Bulldogs in this final pool game to determine the #1 Seed going into the Semi-Finals.  Early in the game with the score tied, Alliance had a major chance slip through their fingers when they went scoreless on a 5-minute power play due to a spearing major called on the Warriors.   Read more HERE...

U18:  Final in OT......Midget Major AA - 3, Colorado Springs Tigers - 2:  In another exciting finish, the Bulldogs pulled another overtime win out of their hats in this come-from-behind victory.  After a scoreless 1st period, Colorado took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd on goals just over a minute apart about halfway through the frame.  Alliance responded late in the period, scoring their goals 2 minutes apart, with the game tying goal coming with only 1:55 remaining in the period.  Read more HERE...

Friday, March 11, 2005    Update from Regionals...USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championships

Tier I Games:

U14:  Did Not Play  Bantam AAA

U16:  Final Score....Midget Minor AAA - 5, CO Outlaws - 4:  It starting out looking like it might not be another barn-burner for the Bulldogs, but the Outlaws refused to oblige and turned it into a close one at the end.  Alliance jumped out to leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the 1st period, and then extended their margin to 5-1 later in the game, but the boys from Colorado never quit.   The Outlaws scored 2 goals in the 3rd to make it another tight one, but the Bulldogs buckled down for the win.

Tier II Games:

U14:  Final Score....Bantam AA - 0, VOSHA Mustangs - 5:  By all definitions, a Mustang is bigger and faster than a Bulldog, and today that rang true, as the team from the Valley of the Sun raced past the overmatched Bulldogs.  Using their size and speed, the Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and cruised to the win in Game 2.  VOSHA has now scored 15 goals and allowed none in their 2 games in the tournament.  The Bulldogs come back against the Host Jr. Polar Bears on Saturday for a chance to earn a semi-final berth.

U16:  Final Score....Midget Minor AA - 3, Billings Jr. Bulls - 2:  For the second time during the tournament, the Bulldogs allowed the game to stay close while still controlling the game and outplaying the opponent.  Out-shooting the Bulls 28 to 18 in the first 2 periods led to a 3-2 lead, with another apparent goal disallowed due to a crease violation.  After a significant delay in the 3rd period due to an injured Billings player, the Bulldogs held on despite being on the penalty kill for the final 4 minutes, of which the last 20 seconds were 3 on 6 with an empty net.

U18:  Final Score....Midget Major AA - 9, Houston Hitmen - 1:  Maybe they just got tired of each other, but the Bulldogs got the momentum and never let the Hitmen have it back in the 11th meeting of the season between these 2 teams from Texas.  The scoring was spread out among the Bulldog players and the game, as Alliance scored 3 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, and 2 in the 3rd.  Houston scored with less than 2 minutes remaining to ruin the shutout bid.

Thursday, March 10, 2005    Update from Regionals...USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championships

Tier I Games:

U14:  Final Score.... Bantam AAA - 3, CO Thunderbirds - 5:  The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period and looked like they might start the tournament with a strong win against the local boys.  After Colorado made it a 2-1 game, Alliance appeared to have scored to make it a 2-goal margin again at 3-1, but the goal was disallowed due to a dislodged net.  Read more HERE...

U16:  Final Score.... Midget Minor AAA - 6, CO Thunderbirds - 5:  This one was definitely the wildest one of the day, with the lead changing hands 5 times and the scored being tied 4 different times.  The Bulldogs trailed at 1-0 at the end of the 1st period, but took leads of 2-1 and 3-2 before being tied up again at 3-3 at the end of 2 periods of play.  Read more HERE...

Tier II Games:

U14:  Final Score.... Bantam AA - 12, Utah Grizzlies - 2:  The Bulldogs scored early and often in this Game 1 win over the Utah State Champions.  Alliance used their speed and quickness to pepper the Grizzlie goalie with shot after shot and won going away.  The Bulldogs will return on Friday to face the tough VOSHA Mustangs of Phoenix in Game 2.

U16:  Final Score.... Midget Minor AA - 4Phoenix Firebirds - 2:   Facing the Firebirds for the 3rd time this season, it was again a tight one on the scoreboard, but the Bulldogs controlled most of the game with the exception of the early part of the 3rd period.  Alliance took leads of 1-0 after the 1st period, and 2-0 at the end of the 2nd period, while out-shooting Phoenix 24 to 13 through 2 periods.  Read more HERE...

U18:  Final In OT.... Midget Major AA - 3, Utah Wildcats - 2:  In another wild one that rivaled the Midget Minor AAA game, the Bulldogs couldn't get enough hockey in regulation and went to the extra period to get an exciting win over a good Utah team.  After trailing the Wildcats 1-0 early in the game, the Bulldogs rallied to take the lead at 2-1, only to have Utah return the favor late for a 2-2 tie at the end of 3 periods Read more HERE...
