Alliance Launches New Web Site…

After utilizing www.alliancehockey.org from the beginning, Alliance Hockey is pleased to announce that we will begin using a new web site platform with Team Sport Technologies at www.alliancebulldogs.org.

The new platform provides for newer and better technologies and software tools to allow for easier management of Alliance News and Information, as well as improving our abilities to provide new services and data management for our Bulldog teams and team managers.

In addition to allowing for secure on-line registrations for tryouts, camps, tournaments, and other type of events, the new web site will allow for the provision of a new Alliance On-Line Store.  The Alliance On-Line Store will provide to our players, parents, and coaches the ability to shop, choose, and purchase Alliance apparel, merchandise, and other related items.

The new Alliance Hockey web site will also allow for a more diverse distribution of the responsibilities of web site information posting by multiple people, reducing the work load necessary to keep team information up to date regularly.

From this point forward, ALL new information, schedules, updates, communications, team and game related articles, tryout information, player selections, and any other Alliance information will ONLY be updated on the new web site at www.alliancebulldogs.org.

The old www.alliancehockey.org web site will remain up and on-line until most, if not all, information from the old site can be transferred to the new web site, which will be done as time allows.

Kostopoulos Scores OT Winner in Stanley Cup Playoffs...

Tom Kostopoulos, brother of former Alliance Founder/Director/Coach Chris Kostopoulos, scored just 0:48 seconds into the first overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 OT victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final series of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs last night in Montreal.  It was Kostopoulos' 3rd goal of the playoffs, his first Stanley Cup Playoff, and his first playoff overtime goal.

“It was really exciting to score a goal like that. It’s definitely the biggest one I’ve ever scored in my life,” admitted Kostopoulos. “But if Saku doesn’t win that crucial faceoff with 35 seconds left and Kovy doesn’t score that huge goal to bail us out, I’d be sitting here telling you about how on Saturday we need to bounce back from being down 1-0 in this series.”

From the Canadiens' web site...

Kostopoulos’ often-overlooked efforts may not normally make headlines, but they sure hit home with his head coach.

“Players like Tom don’t always get the credit they deserve during the regular season,”
said Guy Carbonneau, who also brought his lunch pail to every game in his playing days. “He works incredibly hard, blocks shots and kills penalties. What he does for us often goes unnoticed. It’s his first taste of the playoffs and I think he’ll remember this for a long time.”

During his brother Chris' tenure with Alliance, Tom was routinely on the ice with Bulldog players during his time off from the NHL, and many Alliance players have come to know Tom well while skating with him in practices.

His example of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to excellence in his preparation when playing hockey has always been great for young players to see, and has paid off in the long run as he continues his successful career in the National Hockey League.

Alliance sends their congratulations to Tom, Chris, and the Kostopoulos family on a memorable event.

Free Skate a Success, Attracts 500+ Players...

Alliance was thrilled to see so many players come out this past Saturday to the Free Skate And Meet The Coaches Day.  With over 500 players participating in groups ranging from Mite-Midget, the all day event turned out to be a big success.  The players showed a lot of enthusiasm and excitement as they got to scrimmage and showcase their skills to the coaches from the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club, Alliance and Dallas Ice Jets

Families had the opportunity to meet the coaches and listen to the latest developments regarding the Stars AAA Spring Camp and plans for the coming 08/09 fall season.  Stars AAA Hockey Director Karson Kaebel was impressed with the number of players and parents who decided to take part in the event.

"This was a great hockey day for everyone.  The coaches had fun watching the players and the players were able to let loose and enjoy the afternoon with friends in a fun environment.  It was a thrill to see such a large turnout and so much interest in the new program.  Everyone seems very excited and optimistic for the future of this program and our Spring Camp enrollment is at an all time high".

The Stars AAA Spring Camp officially begins April 26th.  For those who have not registered yet we encourage you to do so immediately as space is limited and the program is getting close to being filled.

Kent Holmes Named Alliance 14U Bantam '95AA Head Coach...

Alliance is pleased to announce that Kent Holmes will be the Head Coach of our 14U Bantam '95AA teams for the 2008-2009 season. Kent comes to Alliance with a wealth of youth hockey coaching experience, having been with the Dallas Stars Select for the previous seven (7) seasons.  Kent was also the Head Coach of the Plano Sr. High School Wildcats when they won the Texas State Championship in 1999.  The next season, he was Head Coach of the Dallas Storm Midget AA team, before starting with the Stars Select.

For a period of 6 years during his youth coaching career, Kent was also the Executive Director of Hockey Operations for the Dr Pepper StarCenters, as well as serving as the Commissioner of the SBC High School Hockey League during that time.  Kent also played college hockey at Bemidji State University in Minnesota where he graduated, and is a Level 4 USA Hockey Certified Coach.  Alliance looks forward to having Kent join the Bulldog staff for the 2008-2009 season as one of our Bantam AA coaches.

Alliance FREE Skate & Meet the Coaches...

The Alliance Bulldogs are excited to announce there will be a Free Skate And Meet The Coaches Day on Saturday, April 19th at the DPSC (Polar Ice) in Grapevine.  This skate is in coordination with the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club and the Dallas Ice Jets, and will be offered to all players in the DFW area.

Coaches from all 3 organizations are expected to be present and ready to assist on the ice for their specific age group.  This is also a great time for future potential players to come out and skate.  It will also be a chance to get them signed up and excited for the Stars AAA Spring Camp.

The Free skate is a great chance for players to come showcase their skills in some drills and scrimmaging and compete with many of the best players in the city for a fun afternoon of free hockey.  All players in the metroplex with birth years ranging from 2002 to 1990 are encouraged to come out and skate as groups will be divided from Mite - Midget.

Each skate will be an hour of competitive and challenging fun with the coaches from all three organizations present.  At the conclusion of each individual group's skate, a meeting will be held in order for parents and players to receive information regarding the direction and plans for the teams heading into the future, and a chance to meet and hear from all three organization's coaches.

We ask all players to bring one dark and white jersey. Below is a list of times for each respective group.

Please Note...1995's skate will be Thursday April 17th at Polar Ice.

"So Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL"...

Alliance doesn't typically advertise or promote products from outside sources via our web site, but a product has come to our attention that we feel deserves your consideration.  At this time of year especially, many hockey parents are earnestly trying to decide what is best for their player(s), and what they should do regarding their participation in youth hockey.

Former NHL player Dan Bylsma and his Father Jay come to the rescue with their book "So Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL."

Do not let the title fool you, this book is NOT about a magical formula to get to the NHL, but advice about raising your kids in the ever changing world, and as it relates to the sport of youth hockey.  Some of the Questions addressed include...

  • How much should they practice?

  • What level of competition is appropriate?

  • How hard do you push?

  • What can you do to avoid burnout?

  • Why stress education?

From their web site...

One parent wrote "This is THE book for hockey parents. We have several hundred books in our hockey library. Without a doubt, "So Your Son Wants To Play In The NHL" is the single best publication I've read as a hockey parent and amateur adult player".

In addition to their book, which many of you may already know about and have possibly read, their web site has many great resources for youth hockey parents, including an extensive Question & Answer section that covers everything from "Should my Mite son play Squirt spring AAA hockey?" to "How does a parent handle diminished ice time?"

Certainly every parent handles these type of situations the way they feel best for them and their player, but another perspective from an experienced parent and player cannot hurt.  We have found that many of their ideas are worth considering.  Take a look...

Vanover Named Head Coach for Pikes Peak 18UAAA...

The Alliance Youth Hockey Association would like to congratulate former Alliance Coach Greg Vanover on his new position as Head Coach of the Pikes Peak Miners 18U Midget Major AAA team.   Vanover was most recently the Head Coach of the Bulldog 16U Midget Minor AAA team that won the Texas State Championship

Greg also led his 2003-2004 PeeWee AA Alliance team to the Rocky Mountain District Championship and to a Bronze Medal at the 2004 USA Hockey National Championships.  Alliance wishes Greg all the best in Colorado.  To read more about his new position, click HERE...

Congratulations to Attack, DJHA, Stars at Nationals...

Alliance would like to congratulate the 4 teams representing Dallas at the USA Hockey National Championships this past week.   The Attack 16U Prep, Attack 14UAAA, and DJHA 95AA all advanced to the Semi-Finals, each bringing home a Bronze Medal.  The Stars 18UAAA also advanced to the Quarter-Finals.

The 3 teams that each of the local Bronze Medalists lost to in the Semis (2 in overtime) all went on to win the National Championship.  Quite a showing for Texas and Dallas hockey - Congratulations again from Alliance.

More NTDP Candidates Coming from the West...

A local youth hockey enthusiast brought to our attention the following article from the PF Chang’s website.  Of special note are the three (3) players from the DFW Area listed as a part of the group from the Rocky Mountain District.   Not only should everyone in Dallas know about these players, but should also know that the quality and quantity of high level players from the RMD is continually improving each year for the reasons indicated in the article.

In addition, with the Attack 14UAAA still in the Semis, the 8 teams representing the Rocky Mountain District at the USA Hockey National Championships all advanced at least to the Quarter-Finals, 4 advanced to the Semi-Finals, and are currently a combined 20-10-4 (W-L-OTL).   Three (3) Dallas area teams advanced to the Semi-Finals, and all 4 DFW teams are a combined 13-3-2, with the Attack 14UAAA still in the title hunt.  The 2 OT losses for Dallas teams both came in the Semis, when DJHA '95AA (12UTII) and Attack 16U Prep (16UTII) both fell just short, but each still bring home a Bronze Medal - Congratulations!

Article from the PF Chang’s Website...

If you are wondering where the ‘92s invited to next week’s NTDP Evaluation Camp are coming from, we’ve broken it down by district.

To us, it further illustrates the changing demographics of hockey in the U.S.  As you see, there are a total of 11 players from the Pacific and Rocky Mountain Districts - specifically, the Los Angeles Basin (4), Las Vegas (1), Greater Phoenix (2), Dallas (3), and Denver (1). That’s more than the New York-New England-Mass-Atlantic districts combined.

We’re not saying this is a good or bad thing. We’re just pointing out changes that are the inevitable result of a population shift away from the Northeast. The fact that these so-called non-traditional hockey areas are also home to NHL teams has helped them grow the numbers. The rinks, and youth hockey programs, followed the money, popping up in the suburbs of these cities. It’s all paying off now, as is evident in the steadily-growing number of serious prospects.

Michigan: 10 (Accettura, Campbell, Gravel, Gunn, Knight, Merrill, Rust, Sinelli, Watson, Yanakeff)

Alliance Announces 3 More Coaches...

The Alliance Youth Hockey Association is pleased to announce 3 more additions to our Coaching Staff for the upcoming 2008-2009 season.   With a previously announced coach not being able to join Alliance, the Bulldogs have added former Alliance Coaches Cosmo Clarke, Jaz Hayden, and Jonn Broadhead to spots behind the bench.

Hayden, last year's Alliance 18U AAA Head Coach, who will also be the Head Coach of an 18U Midget Major AAA team playing under the Dallas Stars AAA organization (different team name), will team up with Clarke, Alliance Director of Coaches, to form quite an impressive duo for the Bulldog PeeWee '97AA team.  Broadhead, who last coached with Alliance as the 14U Bantam AA Head Coach in 2006-2007, will take a position as the Squirt '98AA Head Coach.

Stars AAA Informational Meeting Well Attended...

The Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club Parent Information Meeting at the DPSC (Farmers Branch) was a huge success last night.  Hundreds of parents turned out to hear about the latest details regarding the Attack, Alliance, Ice Jets merger and the 2008 Stars Spring Camp.  Stars AAA Hockey Club President Ralph Searfoss shared the vision of the 'NEW' Stars AAA program with enthusiasm and optimism as he explained the organizations direction for the future.  Alliance, Attack and Ice Jet board members were all present and united in the effort along with coaches from all three organizations.

Cosmo Clarke, one of the Stars AAA Hockey Directors & Alliance Hockey Director was proud to see families from so many associations in attendance.

"I believe this is one of the best things that has happened to youth hockey in Dallas.  Bringing together the three most successful youth hockey associations and having them work together is a win-win situation for every player, coach and family in the DFW area. It is the right thing to do and we are committed as a group to make it work'".

14U Prep Bulldogs Win

Bantam AA NTXHL Championship!!!

Champions - Bantam 14U Prep

'Dogs Sweep Best 2 of 3 for League Title...

After a solid and convincing shutout win in Game 1 earlier Saturday, the 14U Prep Bulldogs won a wild one in Game 2 Saturday night to sweep the Stars Selects in their Best 2 of 3 Series to bring home the NTXHL Bantam AA Championship for Alliance.

Alliance started to build momentum early in Game 1 with a single tally in the first, but continued to get better, scoring 2 more in the 2nd period, and then finishing strong with another 3 in the final frame for the resulting 6-0 victory and a 1-0 series lead.  Game 2 couldn't have been more different.

After riding the momentum evidently continuing from Game 1, the Bulldogs jumped out to 3-0 first period lead in Game 2, and looked to be cruising home for the title after increasing their margin to 4-0 in the first minute of the second frame.  The Stars had different ideas, though, and did not quit playing hard.  The Stars let Alliance know they were still there with 3 goals in under 2 minutes to make it 4-3, and it was now "Katy Bar the Door" time.

The wild middle period would eventually see eleven (11) goals scored between the two teams, with the Stars scoring again in the final minute of the period to make it 8-6 Bulldogs headed into the last period.  The 2nd period must have taken the gas out of both squads, as there was no more scoring until Alliance iced the game with an empty-netter with only 26 seconds left.  The league title is the 14th for Alliance in it's 7 season history.

Frozen 4 - Upsets in 3 of 4 Games Mark Day 1...

The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament kicked off yesterday, and based on our Bracket Contest participants, there were 3 upsets in the first 4 games.  With Michigan beating Niagra while being the only team in the history of the contest to be picked by every person to do so, the Wolverines were the only team to meet expectations indicated by the majority of contestants.

Less than a third of you out there called any of the other 3 games correctly, with Clarkson (31%), Michigan State (32%), and Notre Dame (24%) coming out on top of their higher seeded opponents to advance.   With former DJHA/Dallas Storm defenseman Teddy Ruth  (#5 in pic on the left) being a game starter and earning a +3, Notre Dame was the biggest surprise in their solid 7-3 win over #1 Regional/#4 National Seed New Hampshire.

A couple of new features available this year are the "Game Tracker", and the "Streaming Audio" broadcasts.  You can get live updated box scores, stats, and other details about each game as they happen, and if you are unable to see the games on TV, the NCAA is providing live on-line streaming audio-casts

You can access these features by clicking on the "Frozen Four" at the top of our home page, or the "Game Tracker" logo on the right.

Top Seeded Michigan takes on Niagra in the other East Regional game, and there are also two West Regional tilts today, with Colorado College taking on Michigan State, and Notre Dame playing New Hampshire out in Colorado Springs.  Action in the Northeast and Midwest Regionals starts on Saturday.

Entry into the Alliance Frozen 4 Contest is now closed, but to follow the game results and see how your picks work out, click on the "Frozen Four" logo to see game results as they become available.

2008 Spring Training and Pre-Tryout Camp...

In a cooperative agreement with the newly formed Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club, Alliance will not run an independent Spring Camp this year, but will instead encourage Alliance players to register for and participate in the Stars AAA Hockey Club 2008 "Spring Training and Pre-Tryout Camp".   Alliance Coaches will be a part of the Stars Camp and will be working with all participants.

This years Spring Camp is developed through a collaborated effort of the three most powerful and elite AAA/AA hockey associations in the DFW metroplex. The 'Texas Attack', 'Alliance Bulldogs' and 'Dallas Ice Jets' have come together to produce the most dynamic Spring Camp the state of TX has ever seen. All three programs have had incredible success in developing players and teams on a national level.

These outstanding programs and coaches have now come together to offer it's leading edge instruction in an 8 week camp. Entering a combined 7th year of Spring Training we have once again 'raised the bar' in delivering the most comprehensive and cutting edge program in the country.  To read more about the camp and to register, click HERE...

Attack/Alliance/IceJets Partnership Begins…

The Texas Attack, Alliance Bulldogs and Dallas IceJets Youth Hockey Associations are pleased to announce the completion of its merger.  The three former clubs will now form one AAA hockey association recognized as the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club. All three organizations will begin a partnership together with the Alliance and IceJets becoming the official AA programs respectively and play under the flagship of the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club.

All three programs will work diligently to field the most competitive AA/AAA teams possible in the 08/09 fall season and continue to build on it's foundation for success at the local and national level.  The collaboration of these three programs will make it the largest hockey training and developing program in the DFW area and one of the largest in the country.

In addition, the three organizations are excited to announce the 2008 Stars Spring Training and Pre-tryout Camp. This 8 week Camp will promise to be the best off-season training ground for all players across the metroplex.

Along with providing highly competitive youth hockey teams and training, the programs will all focus on the best interest of the players and family members, and emphasize the development of both life and hockey skills for all participants.

Current State and Future of Alliance...

With all the attention and focus on the new AAA program indicated above, some confusion and misunderstanding has been rumored about the state and future of Alliance.  The Alliance Executive Board would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that we strongly believe that the future of Alliance couldn't be brighter

With the AAA teams, coaches, and players now provided with the information and organization designed specifically for them, the Alliance Executive Board is turning its complete attention and focus to the teams and players that will compete for State, Regional, and National Championships at the Tier II level.

Teams

Tier I - AAA

For the first time since the 2003-2004 season, Alliance will not field any Tier I/AAA teams.  During the 4 seasons that Alliance fielded Tier I/AAA teams, those Bulldogs teams won 3 Rocky Mountain District Championships and advanced to 3 USA Hockey National Championships, one bringing home a Bronze Medal.  There were 4 Tier I/AAA teams within Alliance last season, 3 the year before that, and only 2 each during the two seasons before that.

Starting with the 2008-2009 season, Alliance will work closely with the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey program to move our Tier II players to that program when they are ready to compete at that level, joining many former Bulldog players that will be playing for that program.  For information about the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey program, click HERE...

Tier II AA/A

The staple of our program since its inception in 2001, our AA/A teams will compete for the NTXHL Championships at their respective age levels, as well as for the Tier II State, Regional, and National Championships.  Many current and former Alliance players that have moved on to the Tier I/AAA level and higher began their Bulldog careers on one of our Tier II AA/A teams.

In the 7-year history of Alliance, Tier II Bulldog teams have been to 4 USA Hockey National Championships, won 2 Bronze Medals, captured 4 Rocky Mountain District Championships, won 10 Texas State Championships, and brought home 13 League Championships

Following the move of our former Tier I program to the Dallas Stars AAA, Alliance will re-focus our complete attention to the development of Tier II players, and prepare them to compete at the Tier I/AAA level if and when they are ready and willing.  The reduction of the Alliance number of teams by four (Tier I) will allow for more efficiency in our operation and more attention available to be given to our Tier II teams and their development.

Just a note of statistical interest, of the 1,001 total roster spots fielded by Alliance in its history, only 195 (19%) of those were Tier I spots.  That is the portion of Alliance that has been merged into the Stars AAA program.  We still have the remaining 81% to train and develop.

Coaches

With the renewed focus on Tier II hockey only, the Alliance Hockey Association brought back into the fold the very well respected and nationally recognized Cosmo Clarke as our new Director of Coaches.  Under Cosmo's leadership, the coaching staff of Alliance is being filled with experienced and knowledgeable staff to further the development of youth players to the highest level they wish to achieve.

Now that the coaching positions for the Stars AAA program have been filled, Cosmo will be able to complete his hiring of Alliance coaches, and those will be announced as soon as he has filled all of the remaining positions.

Alliance Seeks Volunteers for 2009 National Championships…

When the official hosts and sites for the 2009 USA Hockey National Championships were announced last fall by USA Hockey, the Alliance Youth Hockey Association was selected to host the 14 & Under Bantam Tier I and Tier II Championships in Frisco, Texas April 1-5, 2009.

Alliance would like to provide opportunities to be involved not only to Alliance players, coaches, and families, we would also like to see that every youth hockey association in the DFW metroplex be represented on the volunteer staff as well.  The benefits of hosting this event extend not only to the host association and its participating teams, but also to the other local associations and the community at large.

With that in mind, Alliance needs to know about those that would be interested in volunteering to help.  To read more about the opportunities to volunteer and help with the 2009 National Championships, click HERE...

4 of 5 Gain NTXHL Finals, 18U Teams Fall in RMD Semis…

Well, it was go home time for 5 Bulldog teams last weekend, but the good news is that four (4) teams earned their way into the NTXHL Playoff Finals by virtue of their outstanding performances in the Semi-Finals this past weekend.  The Alliance 16U Midget Minor AA, 14U Bantam Prep, Squirt Prep, and Squirt AA teams all have an opportunity to bring home league titles in their best 2 of 3 Championship Series on March 29th and 30th.

The 18U Midget Major AAA and 18U Midget Major Prep teams both battled hard and earned their way into the Semi-Finals before falling in the Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Championships.   The 16U Midget Minor AAA and 14U Bantam AAA teams were eliminated in pool play of their respective Tier I RMD Divisions in Colorado, and the Mite Prep team was dropped out of title contention in the Semi-Finals of league playoff action.

Congratulations goes out to the Dallas Stars Midget Major AAA, Texas Attack 16U Prep, Texas Attack 93AAA, and DJHA 95AA teams for representing Dallas and Texas well by winning their respective Rocky Mountain District Championships and earning prestigious trips to the USA Hockey National Championships April 2-6.  Good Luck to all 4 teams, and bring home a National Championship for Texas.

All NTXHL Championship Final Series game schedules and results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.  Scores will be updated as they are received throughout the weekend.

RMD Championships, NTXHL Semi-Finals Slated this Week/Weekend…

It's now officially late in the season, and it's win or go home time now, as nine (9) Alliance teams look to extend their seasons to the maximum by overcoming their final hurdles to reach their respective championships.

Four Bulldog teams will be playing in the Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Championships, with the 18U Midget Major AAA, 16U Midget Minor AAA, and 14U Bantam AAA teams in Littleton, Colorado for the Tier I divisions, and the 18U Midget Major Prep boys in Oklahoma City for the Tier II divisions.

The 16UAAA and 18U Preps are looking to defend Alliance RMD titles brought home last year by their Bulldog predecessors in 2007.  Action in the 2008 RMD Championships starts THURSDAY.

Five other teams - 16U Midget Minor AA, 14U Bantam Prep, Squirt Prep, Squirt AA, and Mite Prep have all earned their way into the NTXHL Playoff Semi-Finals, with winners this weekend advancing to best 2 of 3 championship series in 2 weeks.

All game schedules and results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.  Scores will be updated as they are received throughout the weekend.

MHOA, Reinhard, DFW Hockey Helping One of Our Own…

If you haven't heard already, the realities of life have fallen upon one of our own Alliance Coaches, bringing many things back to perspective.  Alliance 14U Prep Coach David Fry and his family suffered a tragedy this week when their home burned completely, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs as they escaped the house before it was consumed by fire.

As you can imagine, an outpouring of support, help, and assistance began to flow toward David and his family immediately from many people and associations in the DFW Hockey Community.  For all those that have come forward and helped in many ways, the Alliance Bulldog family sends its most grateful appreciation and thanks.

One such organization that has been unbelievably supportive and generous has been the Metroplex Hockey Officials Association (MHOA), under the direct and personal involvement of their President - Ken Reinhard.  In addition, Ken has personally facilitated the creation of a special fund to help David and his family in their critical time of need.

For those of you wishing to make personal contributions to assist David and his family, checks can be made out to "David Fry Home Fund Benefit Account", account number 2362877557, and mailed or brought to any Frost Bank branch.

For Frost Bank locations, please go to https://www.frostbank.com/cgi-bin/ecomm/frost1/scripts/maps/start.jsp.   Please note the account number should be placed in the memo area ( lower left) of the check.

Thank you Ken Reinhard and MHOA, we appreciate your kindness and generosity.

Alliance Welcomes Back Cosmo Clarke…

The Alliance Youth Hockey Association is pleased and excited to welcome back one of our own, as former Bulldog coach Cosmo Clarke has joined the Alliance Hockey staff as the new Director of Coaches.  In addition to his duties for Alliance, Cosmo will also work on staff with the newly formed Dallas Stars AAA program, and is currently involved in helping put that program together along with the Attack/Ice Jet coaching staff.

After successfully coaching Alliance teams for the 4 seasons previous to 2007-2008, Cosmo made a decision to take a break from coaching travel hockey, and Alliance has sorely missed his presence behind the bench and around the rink.  We look forward to seeing Cosmo coming back into the fold and leading the Bulldog coaching staff, as well as being one of the founding members of the Dallas Stars AAA program and hockey staff.

For those of you that know Cosmo, please let him know how excited we are to have him back as a Bulldog, and if you don’t know him, take the time to introduce yourself when you get the chance.  This move will definitely add more quality leadership, expertise, knowledge, and experience to our already top rated coaching staff.

To read more about Cosmo’s experience and accomplishments, click HERE…

Thanks...

Even after considering the events that have unfolded the last few days regarding changes at Alliance, the Alliance Youth Hockey Association would like express their appreciation to Shannon Smith for all the work and dedication she volunteered for Alliance the past 2 seasons.  She took on numerous roles and responsibilities, and worked many hours both publicly, as well as behind the scenes on behalf of Alliance.  As well as being President, she served as the Alliance NTXHL representative, TAHA representative, and Ice Scheduler.

In addition, she also headed up Alliance Hospitality efforts for the Dallas Cups and Rocky Mountain District Championships, and was part of the team that helped host USA Hockey when they came to visit regarding the National Championships.  The Alliance Youth Hockey Association is appreciative of her efforts, and wishes her the best in the future.

Alliance/Ice Jets/Attack form New AAA Program...

Dallas youth hockey continues to evolve, and the evolution is fueled by a desire to develop better programs for the participants.  It all starts with A level hockey, then moves to AA, and eventually AAA hockey.

Those of us that have been around for the longest time believe that we must have collaboration and consolidation to have a AAA hockey association that competes on an international level.  The benefits from having a working relationship creates a roadmap for players from Mites to Juniors.

Challenged in Dallas by the small census of youth hockey players, we work with to fill out our top teams.  We have made lots of advancements during the past 7 years – National Champions and many teams making it to Nationals.  Players moving on to Juniors, getting full college scholarships, and even being drafted into the NHL.

To kick our progress in to hyper-speed, we are please to announce a collaboration between the Alliance, Attack, Ice Jets, and the Dallas Stars Midget Major AAA Hockey Club.

For the 2008-2009 season and beyond, a new AAA organization will be created.  Teams will play under the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club brand.  Players from this program will feed to Dallas Stars Major Midget AAA hockey program, and on through to the Junior A Texas Tornado.

The Dallas Stars have been around the longest, are well funded, and have been very successful in moving players on to Juniors and College.  The Alliance/Ice Jets/Attack are well managed with great winning traditions, and a legacy of player development.

This agreement has the full support of the Dallas Stars, the Dr. Pepper StarCenters, and the Executive Boards of the Alliance, Ice Jets, and Texas Attack.

The Coaches for the new Dallas Stars AAA teams will come from the existing coaching staffs of these organizations, and additional coaches will be brought on to complement this arrangement as necessary.

Spring Training ProgramOne Spring Training Program will be offered and operated by a combined staff.  A staple of youth hockey in the past, it will be bigger, better more advanced than ever.

Alliance and Ice Jets:  These two storied and highly successful programs will continue to develop players, forming and operating AA and A teams to feed players into the new Stars AAA program.

Four years ago this month, the original proposed merger between Alliance and the Ice Jets failed to be completed.  Indicated below is a portion of the letter posted to the Alliance web site and sent to Alliance families on March 5, 2004

“The Ice Jets have a fine hockey association and provide a quality product for their families and players, as well does the Alliance Association.  In attempting to try and bring these two organizations together, there were several fundamental issues on which we could not come to a complete agreement.  We wish the Ice Jets Hockey Association all the best, and anticipate a time in the future when the possibility of working together might be reconsidered.”

It is the same founding members of Alliance and Ice Jets that have made this agreement, with their 6-7 year history and experience as the backdrop and foundation.

Call it prophetic or whatever you want, but 4 years ago we developed a trust in one another that would allow us to eventually work together, when the timing was right and the circumstances appropriate.

The circumstances are now appropriate, and the timing is right.

More Bulldogs Moving up to Juniors, NCAA…

Matt Shost & Michael Hill - First Alliance Players to Sign NAHL Tenders

In just it’s first season, the Alliance 18U Midget Major AAA team has already paid dividends to a couple of their players.  Bulldog defenseman Matt Shost (1990) and forward Michael Hill (1990) have each signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender with the Wichita Falls Wildcats.

Shost is an original Bulldog, starting with Alliance as a member of their inaugural Squirt A team for the 2001-2002 season.  He has been to three (3) USA Hockey National Championships representing Alliance – in 2004 with the Tier II 14U Bantam AA (Bronze Medal), in 2005 with the Tier I 14U Bantam AAA, and last season with the Tier I Midget Minor AAA team (Bronze Medal).

Hill has spent the past two seasons with Alliance, and also won a Bronze Medal at the 2007 USA Hockey National Championships with his Alliance Tier I Midget Minor AAA team.  Prior to coming to Alliance, Michael was with Shattuck St. Mary’s for one season, and was with the California Wave prior to that.

'Dogs Take Crown in St. Louis, Good Weekend for Bulldog Teams...

There were just a few Alliance teams in action this past weekend, but those that were made some hay with their chances.  The Bulldog teams playing last weekend garnered a combined 19-6-2 record in their respective tournaments.

The big winner was the 14U Bantam AAA team, as they went undefeated with a 5-0-0 record and won the Top Flight Tournament Championship in St. Louis.  The Mite Preps also went undefeated at 4-0-0 in Kansas City at the KC Stars Mite Jamboree.

The Squirt AA, 12U PeeWee AA, and 16U Midget Minor AA teams all had good weekends as well, with each having only 1 loss among their combined 14 games.  All the game results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.

Mite Preps go Undefeated in Kansas City Mite Jamboree . . .

Mite Prep:  Bulldogs – 10, Kansas City Saints – 0:  The Bulldogs completed an undefeated weekend with a 10-0 defeat of the Kansas City Saints.  The Saints never knew what hit them as the Bulldogs overwhelming speed and conditioning allowed them to attack the net repeatedly.  As was the case all weekend, the Bulldog attack was relentless.

Although no “champion” was named in the Kansas City Stars Mite Jamboree, the 4-0 Bulldogs were clearly the most dominant team having outscored their opponents by a total score of 29-5.  The Bulldogs extended their overall winning streak to 6 games and pulled to .500 for the season.

Alliance Coach Jouni Lehtola Honored as Local Hockey Hero…

(Alliance Squirt Prep Coach Jouni Lehtola, who also serves as the Alliance Director of Coaches for Mites - PeeWees, was honored by the Dallas Stars at their game with the Detroit Redwings on Sunday. The following article is reprinted from DallasStars.com with permission of the Dallas Stars)

Lehtola True Pioneer of Metroplex Youth Hockey

By John Tranchina

As part of the USA Hockey ‘Hockey Weekend Across America’ initiative, Sunday, Feb. 17 was designated as ‘Honor your local hockey hero’ day.

The Dallas Stars presented an award and gift during their home game Sunday afternoon at the American Airlines Center to a true hero, Jouni Lehtola, in recognition of his lengthy list of contributions to DFW youth hockey.

Lehtola is an extremely worthy honoree, as he could very well be considered the ‘father of Metroplex youth hockey.’ Hired by the Dallas Stars shortly after the club arrived in town from Minnesota in 1993, Lehtola basically started the local youth hockey program from scratch and helped build it up to the point that now, just 15 years later, there are thousands of kids playing hockey here and the area is producing elite-level talent in all age groups.

“He was the original hockey program manager for the Dallas Stars from 1993-97, but he’s never stopped being involved in youth hockey,” noted Keith Andresen, Senior Director of Hockey Programs and Ice Scheduling for the Dallas Stars. “He’s been involved, not only at the local level as a coach and administrator for several organizations, but he’s always been involved with the USA Hockey camps. He is, right now, coaching with the Alliance Bulldogs Youth Hockey Association and is the current coach-in-chief of the Texas Amateur Hockey Association, so he’s basically the head coach for all of Texas and Oklahoma.

“And that’s why we’re honoring him, but he’s also a hockey hero, because part of Hockey Weekend Across America, on Sunday, is honor your local hockey heroes. And that’s why we chose Jouni - there’s so many people we can thank, all of our youth volunteer coaches. We’re going to honor them in our game program and on our website, but we wanted to pick out one person to kind of represent all of those people and Jouni has certainly put in the time and effort to better the youth hockey programs, not only for the Dallas Stars, but for the DFW hockey community and the entire state of Texas.”

One Alliance Team Home, 4 Others Travel this Weekend...

Following one of the busiest weekends of the season, this weekend there are only 5 Alliance teams in action, and only one staying at home here in Dallas.  The Squirt AA boys will have the home town Bulldog fans all to themselves, when they play in the President's Day Tournament being hosted at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills.

The 12U PeeWee AA and 14U Bantam AAA teams are both traveling to St. Louis this weekend, with the PeeWees in the Show Me State Shootout, and the Bantams in the Top Flight Tournament hosted by Chesterfield.

The Mite Preps hit the road for a rare but fun out of town excursion, as they go to Kansas City for the KC Stars Mite Jamboree, and the 16U Midget Minor AA boys are in the desert of Phoenix in the Polar Bear Invitational

All game schedules and results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.  Scores will be updated as they are received throughout the weekend.

16UAAA Wins 4th Straight Title, 18U Preps Go 3 OTs in "Wild" Win...

Tier I - 16U Division:  The Bulldog 16U AAA team won Alliance's 4th straight Texas Tier I 16U Championship on Saturday, as they completed a sweep of the Texas Attack 16UAAA in their best 2 of 3 State Championship series, winning Game 2 on Saturday night in a very tight contest by a score of 3-2.  The Bulldogs won Game 1 on Friday night 4-2, scoring 4 unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 Both the Alliance and Attack will advance to the 2008 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Colorado next month.

Tier II - 18U Division:  In another "Wild" game that will go down as one of those exciting ones in Alliance history, the 18U Preps scored the game-tying goal in the final minute, teased everyone with a celebration after an overtime goal that was eventually disallowed, and then finally won it for real in the 3rd OT to capture the 18U Tier II State Championship and a trip to the 2008 Rocky Mountain District Championships.  The 4-3 win over the Houston Wild is Alliance's 4th Tier II 18U State Championship in the last 5 seasons, avenging their loss against the Wild in last years State Final.   Read more HERE...

PeeWee AAA “RUNNER-UP” in State Championships...

Tier I - 12U Division:  Texas Attack – 4, Alliance Bulldogs – 3:  The 2nd game of the “best of 3” series for the State Championship, Alliance came on the ice fired up, ready to win game 2.  The Texas Attack '95AAA were ready to ensure the series did not go to a 3rd game.  The Attack opened up the scoring earning 2 goals in the first period.

Alliance tied the game at 2 with a beautiful break-away goal and then a great open ice pass, but would never take the lead.  The Attack answered back with two more goals, and when the Bulldogs added goal number 3, the Attack switched goalies to try to stop any more points by Alliance.  Though Alliance played excellent hockey throughout, the scoreboard never changed in their favor and the Attack took game 2 with a final score of 4-3.

The Alliance Bulldogs PeeWee AAA wishes the Texas Attack “GOOD LUCK” as they face the Colorado Thunderbirds next month at Regionals.

12UAAA Bulldogs Drop Game 1 in State Playoff Series...

Tier I - 12U Division:  Texas Attack – 4, Alliance Bulldogs – 2:  Alliance PeeWee AAA set out to win the State Championship against the Attack '95AAA on Friday, February 8 at Valley Ranch.  Game 1was full of excitement for the players and fans alike and the crowd went wild when Alliance made the first goal just after the start of the game.  The Attack continued to try to put one in the net but to no avail during the rest of the period.  Period 2 started much the same way as the Bulldogs once again found the net within the first minute of play.  The Attack took advantage of a Bulldog penalty and managed to get their first goal late in the 2nd period on a power play.   Read more HERE...

HUGE Weekend, and Everyone Plays...

It's the biggest weekend of the season, and the one and only weekend when all 14 Bulldog teams are in action at the same time.  Of course, the State Championships will consume the passion and energy of 7 Alliance teams, and the other 7 teams will be in NTXHL action.

The tournament heats up quickly, with 7 games today, starting this afternoon.   By virtue of their 2-0-0 record last weekend, the Alliance 18UAAA team has already secured a spot in the State Final against the Dallas Stars AAA, as well as one of the 2 Texas spots in the 2008 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Littleton, Colorado.

The other 3 Alliance Tier I teams will be in best 2 of 3 series with their rival Texas Attack teams, with the winners claiming a State Championship banner.  Both the Alliance and Attack will advance to the RMD Championships in each of the 16U and 14U brackets, with only the 12U Champion advancing to RMD.  The Alliance 18U Preps, 16U Preps, and 14U Preps will all be playing for the Tier II State Championship as well this weekend, with the winner in each bracket also advancing to the RMD Championships.

All game schedules and results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.  Scores will be updated as they are received throughout the weekend.

USA Hockey National Championships - A Look Back

With teams beginning the long trek this weekend to a possible berth in the 2008 National Championships, and the 2009 USA Hockey National Championships headed our way, we thought it might be interesting and informative to those not familiar with the Championships (as they are routinely called), to provide a look back at the Nationals in which Alliance has participated, with current and former Bulldog players, parents, siblings, and friends.

Having the privilege to play in a National Championship is a rare opportunity for most, and typically, significant memories are established during the experience.  It is the objective of this area of the web site to re-kindle some of those memories, have some fun, and communicate them to those interested as we approach hosting one in our own back yard.

Each of the 3 teams will face each other again this coming week(end), with the top 2 teams left standing playing a 1-game Final for the State Championship, as well as both teams advancing to the 2008 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Littleton, Colorado in March.

Exciting Alliance Dallas Cup Crowns 4 Champs Again...

The 2008 Alliance Dallas Cup wrapped up action yesterday, with another 4 new champions taking home a crown.  After 72 games between 35 different teams, overtimes, double overtimes, Quarters and Semis, banners were rolled out for each Division winner.

In the newly added 18UAA Division, the Phoenix Polar Bears handed the Darien Huskies their only loss of the tournament in the final to become the inaugural Champions in that division.

In the 16UAAA Division, the Colorado Thunderbirds '91 finally got the title they have sought for 3 years, holding off the Shattuck St. Mary's boys from Minnesota in the title game.

In the 16UAA bracket, the local boys from the Texas Attack Prep brought home the first Dallas Cup title for their program, rebounding from a preliminary round loss to the Mission Arizona Ice with a solid shutout win when it counted most in the final.

The Attack gang wasn't satisfied with just the one trophy, so the Texas Attack '93 Bantam team also took revenge from an earlier loss to Shattuck St. Mary's by beating them in the 14UAAA championship game to get another banner for the orange and black.

Thank You...

The Alliance Dallas Cup would like to thank all the teams, players, coaches, and parents for another great weekend celebrating the highest levels of youth hockey.  Everyone was very friendly, professional, and displayed good sportsmanship through good times and bad, wins and losses.  Another huge THANK YOU also goes out to all the Alliance parents that helped out and extended a hand of Texas hospitality to our out of state visitors.  We look forward to another great Alliance Dallas Cup in 2009.

Special Thank You...

A special THANK YOU goes out to Lanette Rees, Tournament Director of the 2008 Alliance Dallas Cup.  In her first year as Director of the Tournament, Lanette made it the best one yet.  Only someone who has actually handled a tournament like this knows how much time and energy is expended over months of preparation and sleepless nights during the actual tournament.  If you see Lanette, let her know how much it was appreciated, or drop her a note to congratulate her at alliancedallascup@alliancehockey.org.

Inspirational Hockey Movie being Produced

On a fairly regular basis, Alliance receives requests to promote different products, events, etc., some of which we announce, and some we do not, for various reasons.  Recently we were informed of an inspirational hockey movie being produced, and after a review of the company making the film, and about the film itself, we felt it appropriate to inform the Alliance family and local hockey community about it.

Capistrano Films & Productions is in the process of completing all the elements for a feature film, "Ice Time" It is an inspirational story about a retired professional hockey player who is forced to reconcile with his dying father.  It is both moving and riveting, and it also deals with overcoming elements of child abuse.   Read more HERE...

Alliance 18U Preps Take Vegas Title...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 3, Phoenix Polar Bears - 1:   Forget about the Floyd Mayweather 10th round decision, or the finale of the Ultimate Fighter.  The real sports news out of Las Vegas for the weekend of December 7-9 was that the Alliance 18U Prep Bulldogs brought home the bacon from the Nevada Stars Invitational Tournament held at the beautiful Las Vegas Ice Center.   Read more HERE...

12UAA Bulldogs Roar to a "Wild" Win...

12U PeeWee AA:  Alliance – 4, Houston Wild – 3:  Coaches, Sports Announcers and Columnists talk about a term called the “Wounded Tiger Team”, referring to a team picking up the slack for an injured teammate or teammates.  The Bulldogs were down with 2 key players injured and 1 who had just returned playing in the game to ROAR TO VICTORY over the leagues first place team Houston Wild by a score of 4-3.    Read more HERE...

'Dogs Dropped by Penguins...

12U PeeWee AA:  DJHA AA – 6, Alliance – 0:  DJHA AA scored first on an early power play that was the only goal scored in the first period. The Penn’s scored a “shorty” for the only goal of the second period.  The Penn’s scored 4 more third period goals to end the game in a 0-6 “shutout” loss for the Bulldogs.  The Penn’s out shot Alliance 32-9 for the game.

18U Preps Take a Split on Day 2 in the Desert...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 5, West Valley (Calif.) Wolves - 3:  Licking their wounds from their morning loss, the Bulldogs took the ice versus the West Valley Wolves for a 4:00pm tilt.  The Bulldogs pounced on the Wolves and kept the play in the West Valley end for much of the game, which was more one sided in favor of Alliance than the 5-3 score might indicate.  Bulldog play grew listless in the third period and the never say die Wolves took advantage to score two goals in the final five minutes of the game.   Too little, too late for the Californians.   Read more HERE...

18U Midget Major Prep: Phoenix Polar Bears - 2, Alliance - 1:  Alliance faced a large, speedy and talented Phoenix Polar Bear team at 8am Saturday morning.  The game was a heartbreaker.  Despite being outshot by a wide margin, Alliance rode smokin hot goaltending and clung to a 1-0 lead until deep in the third period.  Alliance successfully killed three 5-on-3 penalty deficits in the game.  The Bulldogs, however, picked up some ill advised late penalties, ran around in their own end and surrendered two goals in the final minute and a half of play to lose the game, 2-1.   Read more HERE...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 5, Nevada Stars AA - 1:   The Alliance 18U Preps took the ice at 8pm, some 12 hours after arriving in Las Vegas, to take on the host team, the Nevada Stars.  The long day didn't seem to faze the Bulldogs, who scored a goal only 48 seconds into the game and never looked back, winning 5-1.   Read more HERE...

"A Date Which will Live in Infamy"...

And no, we do not mean it was a bad day for hockey.  This day - December 7, 1941 - was a date on which our culture and millions of American lives were forever changed, when the United States was attacked and brought into World War II

Even though it is not an official holiday, we still want to never forget the men and women who then, and have since, defended our country.

As we go throughout our fun hockey weekend (win or lose), let's not forget about the freedoms we share that allow us to do the things we want, and the prices paid by so many to grant us those freedoms

As you stand at the glass freezing your tail off watching your kid play the greatest game on ice, remember we have soldiers in harms way - TODAY, right NOW.  This soldier to the right could have been a former youth hockey player, and someday that player on the ice you're watching right now might be there as well...

All game schedules and results can be seen by going to our "Weekend Games" tab at the top of the web site.  Scores will be updated as they are received throughout the weekend.

12U Prep 'Dogs Drop Game 3 in Houston against the DJHA Penguins...

12U PeeWee Prep:  DJHA Minor – 2, Alliance - 1:  The Bulldogs played the first period with jump in their step and attacked the DJHA Minor Penguins throughout the period. The Penguins were able to score the first goal to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs continued their strong play into the second and rallied quickly to score their first goal in the second period.  DJHA’s momentum continued as they finished the period, scoring an even strength goal to take a 2-1 lead.

Both teams would battle throughout the third period but thanks to strong Bulldog goaltending, the game was always close and winnable.  The Bulldogs net minder had 16 shots on net with 14 saves for the game.

1st Period Dooms PeeWee AA...

12U PeeWee AA:  Attack '96AAA – 7, Alliance – 1:     The Texas Attack 96AAA scored 4 first period goals to end the first period up 4-0 over the Dogs.  The first goal of the second period was scored by the Attack for a 5-0 lead.  The Bulldogs stormed back on a fantastic pass from the left wing to the center in the mid slot who slammed home a perfect goal…unfortunately it was the Bulldogs only goal of the game that ended in a 1-7 loss.

'Dogs Show Fight, Come from Behind to Win in Shoot-Out...

14U Bantam AA: Alliance – 5, Ice Jet 94 Minor – 4:  In spite of a first period Bulldog goal that was scored from a great shot from the point, the Dawgs fell behind after two periods 4 to 1.  The Dawgs needed to dig deep in the third period to make it a game, and did just that by combining strong goaltending, defense and offense that resulted in three goals by the Bulldogs and denying the Ice Jets 94 Bantam Minor any other scoring.  Read more HERE...

'Dogs Learn Something New...

Squirt Prep: DJHA Squirt Major – 5, Alliance – 1:  For better or for worse, in sickness and in health...YOU GOTTA LOVE THESE GUYS.  The Bulldogs tried new positions with different personnel on different lines and the game was played.  Timing on passing appeared to be off by just a step and unfortunately the DJHA Squirt Major was there to take advantage of the situation.  New Positions also brought out new stars on defense.  When the gatekeeper was down, other Bulldogs stepped up to clear the zone.  Still, it was a long day at the office with the final score DJHA – 5 and Bulldogs – 1.

Bulldogs Take One on the Chops....

12U PeeWee Prep:  Texas Attack - 8, Alliance - 2:  The Bulldogs faced off against the Texas Attack 96AAA in their second game in Houston.  The Attack jumped out to a two goal lead early in the first period.

Alliance had several scoring opportunities but could not come up with a goal in the first period ending the first down 2-0 against the Attack.

12U PeeWee Prep:  Houston Wild – 3, Alliance - 2:   The Bulldogs headed south for the weekend to meet up with the leagues first place team the Houston Wild As expected, players on both sides played with emotion and a lot of energy.  The Bulldogs were able to establish the early lead in the first period with the first goal of the game. With the Dogs consistent goaltending and defense the Wild were shut out in the first period and denied ZERO goals.  Read more HERE...

12U AA Falls Twice in Houston...

12U PeeWee AA:  Houston Wild – 7, Alliance – 0:    In a game dominated by the Houston Wild, the Dogs were shutout in a 0-7 loss.

12U PeeWee AA:  DJHA Minor – 6, Alliance – 2:  The first period ended in a scoreless tie in this NTXHL contest against the DJHA Minor Penguins.  The Dogs scored the games first goal of the second period on a great pass and shot to take a 1-0 lead.  The Penn’s scored the games next 2 goals on power plays to take a 2-1 lead to end the second period.  The third period featured 4 Penn’s goals and 1 more Alliance goal on a point shot, rebound and one timer from the left mid slot to end the scoring in a 2-6 loss.

Bulldogs Score Early But Don’t Hang on to Win...

14U Bantam AA: Stars Select – 3, Alliance – 2:  The Bulldogs came out strong and scored two goals within the first four minutes of the game. The first at 13:20 left from a nice wrist shot that went top left and the second goal with 11:08 left, from a low shot that went right by the Stars Selects U14AA goaltender.  Read more HERE...

Great Tournament Run Ends for Mites...

Mite Prep: DJHA - 6, Alliance - 0 Sunday turned out to be a bad game for the Bulldogs.  None of them really came out to play and were not mentally prepared for the game against the DJHA Penguins Major.  They did not play their positions and were not skating hard.  It was extremely hard for the Coaches and the parents to watch the boys end a great tournament on such a poor performance.  Even thought they played poor they only allowed 6 goals.  Overall the Bulldogs had a great tournament and had a blast with the tournament experience.

16U Preps Earn Final, Drop Tight One in Littleton Championship...

16U Midget Minor Prep: West Coast HC - 3,  Alliance – 2:  In the Championship showdown, the Bull Dogs once again faced the West Coast Hockey Club.  The Dogs peppered the West Coast goalie with 12 shot in the opening frame, but nothing found the twine.  West Coast got the only tally of the period off a scrum in the front of the net.   Read more HERE...

16U Midget Minor Prep: Alliance – 4, Northwest Chargers - 3:  The semi final game on Sunday morning was against the Northwest Chargers, a feisty team from Chicago, Northwest.  A penalty filled 1st period by both teams ended up in a late 4 on 4 goal by Northwest.  With 0:48 seconds left on a Bull Dog power play, the Bull Dog D took the puck coast to coast and knotted the game at 1.  Read more HERE...

The Bulldogs took the ice and for the 1st time in the tournament stumbled temporarily.  Read more HERE...

The Scots squirt team and the Bulldogs were the only 2 teams still undefeated in the tournament.  This morning’s match up cut that down to one team.   Read more HERE...

Mites Split Day 2 of Roundup...

Mite Prep: Ice Jets - 6, Alliance - 1: With a 4 hour break the boys had to get ready to play the Ice Jets Major.  They came out skating hard and getting physically.  They got a lot of penalties however, had many opportunities on power plays as well.  The boys kept fighting and were within 2 goals until the 3rd period.  They ran out of juice at the end of the game but were only out shot by 4 goals in the game which was a great improvement.

Mite Prep: Alliance - 8, OK City - 0: On Saturday they had an early start with the OKC Jr. Blazers, but were fired-up and ready to play.  They fought hard and prevented only 12 shots on goal and the goaltending was awesome!  The defense played incredible and did a fantastic job keeping the puck in the offensive zone.

PeeWee AA "Rounds Up" the Weekend With a Shutout Win...

12U PeeWee AA:  Alliance – 3, DJHA 96 – 0: The Bulldogs didn’t let the disappointment of the earlier loss in the day get them down when they took on the DJHA Minor Penguins in the final game of the Fall Round Up. Instead, they continued to play a strong team game and netted one goal in each period. On the defensive end, the Dogs didn’t give the Penguins many scoring chances and when the Penguins did get a chance, the Bulldog goalie was there to turn them away for the first Bulldog shut out of the season and a nice ending to the tournament.

12U PeeWee AA:  Yorba Linda Blackhawks – 4, Alliance – 3: The Bulldogs continued the strong team play from the day before when they took on the Yorba Linda Blackhawks. Despite their strong play, it was the Blackhawks who struck first to claim a 1-0 lead after one period. The Bulldogs didn’t back down and scored twice in the first three minutes of the second period to go ahead 2-1.  Read more HERE...

Total shots were Bulldogs 5, Arapaho 35.

Bulldog Freight Train Slowed a Bit in Sister-Kisser...

16U Midget Minor Prep: Alliance – 2, West Coast HC - 2:  The only game Saturday was against the West Coast Hockey Club from California.  The Bull Dogs opened the scoring at the 10 minute mark of the first period with a nice rebound goal.   Following a scoreless 2nd period, West Coast opened the 3rd period with a power play goal. The Bull Dogs capitalized on their power play deep into the 3rd period and scored with 2:40 remaining in the game.  Unfortunately, the Dogs fell asleep and let West Coast score 30 seconds later to end in a “Sister Kisser”.  The Bull Dogs finished the qualifying round 3-1-1 and wrapped up the top seed in their division.

18U Preps Finish Strong in USHN Challenge Cup...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 3, LA Jr. Kings AA - 2:  This game began to resemble yesterday’s performance, including a quick opening period power play goal by the Los Angeles Jr. Kings AA to take a 1-0 lead. From the opening faceoff the ‘Dogs looked sluggish. However, the ‘Dogs again enjoyed the benefits of having an ice cut after the 1st period giving the team an opportunity to re-energize. This time though, the break seemed to payoff as the ‘Dogs began to get into the flow of the game.   Read more HERE...

Squirt Prep: Alliance – 5, Dallas Stars Selects Major – 2:  The afternoon game brought the Dallas Stars Selects to challenge the Bulldogs.  The 1st period ended with the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.  The Bulldogs then opened up the door allowing the Stars Selects Major to score twice and take the lead 2-1 before the Bulldogs tied up the score heading into the 3rd period.

The 3rd period was marked with several scoring chances, and the Bulldogs made the most of them, scoring 3 times to go home Winners.

Squirt Prep: Alliance – 3, DJHA Squirt Major – 2 (SO):  With Thanksgiving past and the busiest shopping day of the year at hand, the only safe place left in Dallas was at a hockey rink…that is, unless your team was picked to play the 1st day of the Fall Roundup against the Mighty Squirt Prep Bulldogs.

12U PeeWee AA:  Colorado Springs Jr. Tigers – 6, Alliance – 2: The second game of the day found the Bulldogs squaring off against the Colorado Springs AA Jr. Tigers from Colorado Springs . The Bulldogs came out playing a strong team game and scored quickly to take a 1-0 lead. The Jr. Tigers came back and scored two minutes later to tie the game at one. 18U Preps - Too Much Turkey, Too Much NXi...

18U Midget Major Prep: Team NXi - 6, Alliance - 0:   The ‘Dogs were looking to build momentum in the last round robin game of the tournament coming off their dominating effort from their Thanksgiving Day victory over the Omaha Energy.  It appears that Team NXi AAA had different plans. Right off the opening faceoff, Team NXI pressed play into the ‘Dogs defensive zone and scored just .08 seconds into the period. The quick goal seemed to suck the energy out of the Alliance bench and Team NXI controlled play for the remainder of the period, outshooting the ‘Dogs 10-2.  Read more HERE...

'Dogs Rebound with Solid Win on Turkey Day...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 6, Omaha Energy AAA - 1:  After licking their wounds from game one of the EHK USHN Challenge Cup tournament, the resilient Bulldogs returned to the ice for a thanksgiving matinee game against the Omaha Energy AAA. The team looked energized and ready to play during their pre-game skate. The first period was played to a 0-0 deadlock, but the ‘Dogs were executing their game plan to perfection. Even though the ‘Dogs were out shot 7-4 the disciplined positional play and ability to stay out of the penalty box nullified the Energy from being able to generate any quality scoring chances in the period. Thanks, Turkey, and Hockey-Hockey-Hockey...

Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, thanks, and reflection on the many blessings we have experienced, but sometimes it just comes down to believing Thanksgiving was created for hockey tournaments.  Evidence of that is the 1,740,000 Google hits on "Thanksgiving Hockey" (10,000 more than last year if you're checking).   The biggest weekend of the season gets kicked off today, and this week 13 Alliance teams will play more than 50 games in 4 different tournaments, from the mountains of Colorado and upstate New York, to 2 big ones right here at home in Big D.

Back again this year, as in tradition with years past, is the always competitive Mile High Thanksgiving Tournament in Littleton, Colorado, where the 16U MMinor Prep, 16U MMinor AA, and 14U Bantam AA teams will compete with some of the best teams in the west.  Our 18U Midget Major AAA, Prep, & 16U Minor AAA teams will compete here locally, starting play today in the nationally recognized US Hockey News Challenge Cup, and the 14U Bantam AAA team will get a taste of upstate New York in the Tim Connolly Thanksgiving Tournament.  The remaining Bulldog teams will stay at home with the Dallas Stars Select Fall Roundup.

For a quick glance at all the Alliance teams in action this weekend, you can click on the "Weekend Games" tab at the top of our home page, which will take you to a page with a schedule indicating all the Alliance games being played during the weekend, including the results as they become available.

12UAA Wins Shootout Battle of PeeWees...

12U PeeWee AA:  Alliance - 3, Alliance Prep – 2 (SO): The Bulldogs took on their younger brothers for the second time this season. The young Dogs skated hard trying to avenge the loss earlier, while the big Dogs didn’t play with much energy and found themselves continually short handed. That didn’t matter early on, when a Bulldog winger intercepted a D-to-D pass and scored on a breakaway for a shorthanded goal and a 1-0 big Dog lead after one.  Read more HERE...

Silver Stick Semi-Finals:  Owls Dethrone 'Dogs...

18U Midget Major Prep: Grand Rapids - 3,  Alliance - 2 (OT):   The coaches are always telling the players to put teams away early in the game. They are told the longer teams are allowed to hang around the more they believe they can compete. If ever this theory came to fruition this was the game.

Alliance entered this game confident and ready to move thru the semifinals and on to the final game for a rematch with the Troy Sting. This was an opportunity for the ‘Dogs to  defend their Midland regional championship and again compete at the Silver Stick final in Sarnia . All that stood in their way was the Owls from Grand Rapids Read more HERE...

Silver Sticks: 18U Preps Split, Gain Semi-Finals...

18U Midget Major Prep: Troy Sting - 5, Alliance - 3:   Game 3 of the round robin was a meeting of the two remaining undefeated teams in the Silver Stick Regionals tournament. This was a much anticipated match up and drew a nice crowd on the glass. The Troy Sting coaching staff sported their national Champion patches from their 2004-2005 season. Some of our Bulldog players competed in the National tournament that the Sting eventually won as Bantams and knew we would be in for a good battle.  Read more HERE...

18U Midget Major Prep: Alliance - 2, Flint Blades - 0:   The Dogs seemed to have a lot of energy during their pre-game skate. They were going to need it as they were up against the rough and tumble Flint Blades. The Blades came into town ready to do battle. From the opening face-off in this game the ‘Dogs were focused on the task at hand. Both teams were frequent visitors to the penalty box.  Once again the strict enforcement of the new standards by the officials was responsible for a lot of special teams play on both sides.  Read more HERE...

14U Preps Nipped Again...

14U Bantam Prep:  Texas Attack 94AAA - 3, Alliance - 2:  The Attack started the scoring early in the 1st period with the Bulldogs answering with their own goal at 9:08 in the 1st.  The Attack ended the period with another score.   The Attack got their 3rd in the at 13:10 in the second.  The Bulldogs were able to shut down the Attack in the third giving themselves a chance at a comeback and halved the lead seconds into the 3rd period.  Unfortunately, the Attack also heightened their defensive game and the scoring ended there.

Silver Sticks Game 1: 18U Prep Bulldogs Bury the Valley...

18U Midget Major Prep:  Alliance - 6, Grand Valley - 0:   The Bulldogs arrived in Midland Michigan at 3:30PM for a 7:30PM face-off to defend their Silver Stick Regionals championship. First up was the Grand Valley Stars. The travel from Dallas seemed to take its toll as the Bulldogs could not get into the flow of the game. Of course the ‘Dogs didn’t do anything to help themselves as they were whistled for 8 penalties in the first period, two of which were of the 10 minute variety!! Frustration was beginning to set in as the period closed with no score.   Read more HERE...

'Dogs Fall Late in Back & Forth Wild One...

12U PeeWee AA:  Texas Attack 96AAA – 6, Alliance – 5: The story of this game was the Dogs dug themselves a hole and although they were able to catch up, they could never pull ahead. About 5 minutes into the game, the Attack scored twice in 45 seconds to take a 2-0 lead. The Dogs scored late in the period to cut the lead to 2-1. Early in the second the Dogs scored again to tie the game. The Attack scored less than two minutes later to regain the lead at 3-2. The Dogs scored a few minutes later to knot the game at 3, but the Attack scored again just 30 seconds later to retake the lead.  Read more HERE...

12UAA Drops Tight One...

12U PeeWee AA:  Houston Hitmen AA - 4, Alliance – 2: In many ways, this game mirrored the match-up between these two teams in the first tournament of the season, except the final score. Like before, the Hitmen built a 2-0 lead. Like before, the Bulldogs scored to cut the lead to one only to see the Hitmen score to increase the lead to 3-1 after two. Like before, the Bulldogs scored to cut the lead to 3-2. Unlike before, it was the Hitmen who scored the next goal. Instead of ending regulation tied at 3, the Hitmen skated away with a 4-2 win.

Bulldogs Get All "Tied" Up in Phoenix...

14U Bantam Prep:  The Bulldogs traveled to Phoenix and gained valuable experience during the Veteran's Day tournament.  The Bulldogs finished 4th overall after battling in the pool games.  In a very strange hockey scoring weekend, the Bulldogs tied the California Stars (2-2), the Las Vegas Outlaws (4-4) and the Phoenix Firebirds (4-4).  They lost to the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes and to the California Stars in the Consolation game.  The boys had a terrific weekend and played hard - holding their own against significantly larger teams.  They are also looking very forward to meeting the California Stars again during the Thanksgiving tournament.

Bulldogs Improve with Smart Play...

Mite Prep:  DJHA - 6, Alliance - 0: The boys were not really excited to play DJHA Penguins Major however one of the captain’s asked the boy’s if they were ready to play some “smart hockey” and then they decided they were ready.  They went out on the ice determined to prove they were a good team.  Even though they lost, they cut the goals allowed in half from the first time they played them.  They skated hard and played a great game proving that they were getting better.  Keep fighting Dawg’s your looking great.

Squirts Honor Veterans with a Win...

Squirt Prep:  Alliance – 5, Dallas Stars Selects Major – 3: The Bulldogs’ schedule took them to Farmers Branch on Saturday.  At 4:30 the puck dropped and the Boys went to work. Most of the 1st and 3rd period was played in the Stars Selects Major end of the ice. The Bulldogs created several opportunities to score throughout the game and put a lot of quality shots on goal.  Five shots found the mark resulting in a final score of 5 – 3.

The Bulldogs continue their winning ways as they head into a bye week and the Fall Roundup tournament. The Squirt Prep team would like to say "Thank You" to all Veterans.  Your service has allowed us the PRIVILEGE to live in this Great Nation and freely participate in a sport we love… God Bless all of you.

Bulldogs Take One on the Chops...

18U Midget Major Prep:  Texas Attack 16U AAA - 6,  Alliance - 2:   In a Saturday morning tilt at Valley Ranch, the Texas Attack 16U AAA team avenged their loss earlier this season to the Alliance 18U Preps.  Although the game was close until late in the second period, ultimately the Attack outplayed and outhit the Bulldogs in the second and third periods and pulled away to a 6-2 victory.

The Attack scored two early goals to take a 2-0 lead in the first period.  Alliance outplayed the Attack late in the period with several chances on the Attack net.  Finally, with 2:08 left in the first period, the Bulldogs scored on a deflected slap shot to cut the Attack lead to 2-1.

The Squirt Prep Boys are Back in Town...

Squirt Prep:  Alliance – 7, Ice Jets 97 AA – 0:  The Bulldogs are back in town.  They hit the ice eager to show the Ice Jets 97AA team all the things they had learned up north.  The offense passed at every opportunity they could find, and when there was no opportunity, they created one.

The defense showed the Ice Jets why you never cross a blue line when a Bulldog is on the other side.  Stellar goal tending led to the 2nd shut-out of the season.  Welcome Home Bulldogs!!!!!!  Welcome Home....Final 7-0

Mites Continue Hard Play...

Mite Prep:  Ice Jets - 6, Alliance - 0: The game started off really quick for the Ice Jets Major scoring in the first minute.  The Dawgs had to dig in so the game would not get out hand and did just that.  They picked up their pace and fought hard reducing the goals allowed in each period.  The defense played another great game of blocking shots however could not stop them from scoring.  They fought hard the entire game and never gave up.  Remember boys you can beat anyone if you just BELIEVE!!!!

12UAA Bulldogs Nipped in OT...

12U PeeWee AA:  Dallas Hawks AA - 3, Alliance - 2 (OT):  The Bulldogs came out flying against the Dallas Hawks AA and scored with 1 minute left in the first period on a pass from the left side behind the goal line from the center to the right wing in the low right slot for a shot, rebound and slam to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.  Read more HERE...

Mites Escape with Another Victory...

Mite Prep:  Alliance - 4, Jr. Brahmas - 2:   The Bulldogs went into the game thinking that it was going to be an easy win but were surprised by the hard work that the Jr. Brahmas gave them.  They did not play very well however fought hard and in the end came away with the win.  We had great goaltending that really gave the boys the opportunity to pull off the win.  The bulldogs realized that everyone gets better and it is never an easy game.

Mite 'Dogs Earn Shutout Win...

Mite Prep:  Alliance - 10, Scots - 0:  The Bulldogs took their first win of the season on their back and kept pushing forward to beat the Scots 10-0.  They kept the puck in the offensive zone the majority of the game playing their positions and passing the puck several times before scoring. The defense did a great job holding the blue line and only allowing 2 shots on goal the entire game.  Great Team Work boys, keep it going.

Ranked 16UAAA & 18UAAA Bulldogs Headed to Beantown...

It's still very early in the season, but if rankings get you excited, then the Bulldog 16UAAA and 18UAAA teams will get you going, as they are both ranked in the Top 20 as listed by United States High School Hockey Online.   The 16UAAA boys are listed at #12 in the Tier I Midget Minor list, and the 18UAAA Bulldogs are listed at #15 in the Tier I Midget Major rankings.  Both teams will now find opponents targeting them starting this weekend, as they both travel to Boston for the Annual Beantown Classic.  Action for both teams starts on Thursday.

One other Tier I Alliance team will be in action as well this weekend, as the 14U Bantam AAA Bulldogs go way north to London, Ontario for the always competitive London Jr. Knights Invitational.  Six other Bulldog teams will be in NTXHL action this weekend, with the 14U Bantam AA traveling to Houston for a 3-game set, and 5 other Alliance teams staying in the DFW area for their league tilts.

Mites Open League Play with a Win...

Mite Prep:  Alliance - 8, Jr. Brahmas - 1:  The Mites won their NTXHL season opener on Saturday against the Jr. Brahmas.  The dogs started off slow however got the first goal of the game from a face off before the end of the first period.

After that, there was nothing holding the bulldogs back.  They were fired up and at that point got the momentum.  They scored 4 more goals before giving up their only goal to the Jr. Brahmas but responded with 3 more goals.

The boys were playing hard and determined to prove that they were ready for the season to begin.  With missing 2 players through the pre-season it was great to see the entire team on the ice and playing together.

The boys worked hard in holding the puck in the zone as well as not allowing the Jr. Brahmas to have scoring opportunities and creating scoring opportunities for us!  All the hard work showed that they were ready.  Great Job Bulldogs!!!

In a very strong finish to a very good weekend, 4 Bulldog teams earned Championship Game berths, and 3 came home with a title to conclude the Columbus Day holiday weekend.   Two other Alliance teams were eliminated in their Semi-Final contests by the shootout method.

Both the Squirt AA and the 16U Preps went 6-0-0, and captured their respective divisions of the local Silver Stick Western Regionals, earning a berth into the Silver Stick Finals in Canada in January.  The 18U Preps went 4-1-0 to capture the Eastern Mass Columbus Day AA Championship, defeating the York Devils in the final, an 18U Qualifier for the 2007 USA Hockey National Championships.

The other Alliance Finalist was the 16UAAA Bulldogs, who came through with an exciting 2-1 Semi-Final shootout win over the host New Jersey Devils, to earn a berth in the Championship Game of the NJ Devils Youth Elite Tournament in West Orange, NJ.  The Bulldogs then fell in the final to the Bolles Ice Dogs of Florida by a score of 5-2.  That game was tied at 2-2 with less than 2 minutes remaining, when the Ice Dogs scored the go-ahead goal, and then added 2 empty netters.

The 18UAAA boys had a 3-1-0 weekend at the Midget Buc Bowl in Des Moines, Iowa, which ended when they fell in the Semi-Finals by way of a shootout to the Mahoning Valley Phantoms.    The 16UAA Bulldogs went 5-1-0, dropping their Silver Stick Western Regional Semi-Final by a 3-2 shootout as well, to the Ice Jets U16AA.

After a couple of tough opening losses, the 12UPreps came back with 2 straight wins in the Silver Stick Western Regionals to finish the weekend on a positive note at 2-2-0.  In other action, the 14UPreps dropped a close NTXHL contest to the Houston Wild in overtime, and the 12UAAA fell to the Texas Attack '95AAA by a score of 5-2 in exhibition action.

Former Bulldog Leads MJHL in Scoring…

Former Alliance Bulldog Nick Lazorko (’89) has found a new home, a hockey home that is, and it’s a far cry from the friendly confines of Texas.  Nick has acclimated quite nicely in his new surroundings in Winkler, Manitoba, playing for the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), a member of the Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL).

Winkler is just over the US-Canada border north of North Dakota, approximately 80 miles from Winnipeg, and about 130 miles from Grand Forks, ND – home of the UND Fighting Sioux.   Read more about Nick HERE...

Very Light Weekend, But 16AAA Already Into It...

It will probably end up being the lightest game schedule of any weekend this season, but the only Bulldog team playing this weekend is already in the win column again.  With most other Alliance teams still recovering from the big Labor Day Weekend, and many getting prepared for the big NTXHL Scheduling Meeting on Saturday, the Alliance 16UAAA ran their season opening win streak to 7.

16U Midget Minor AAA:  Alliance - 3, Mahoning Valley - 1:  The Bulldogs won game 1 of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup early Friday morning in Detroit, beating the Mahoning Valley Phantoms by a score of 3-1.  Alliance scored in the first on an even strength goal, and took a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Good Start, Great Finish on Labor Day...

It was a good start for Alliance on the final day of the Labor Day Tournament weekend.  The Mite Preps finished strong with a 3rd period rally, the 14U Bantam AA team won their final game of the of the Texas Shootout.

The 12U Preps played to a shootout in the Semi-Finals, the Squirt Preps scored the only 2 goals allowed by their Semi-Final opponent the entire weekend, and the 18U Preps finished their exhibition weekend with a nice 3-2 win over the Texas Attack 16UAAA (picture to the right).

It was a great finish, as the 18UAAA and 16UAAA teams completed their unbeaten weekend, going a combined 9-0-1 in the Jr. Sharks Labor Day Shootout in San Jose.  The 16U Preps and 16U AA teams would have both finished the weekend undefeated as well, if they hadn't had to play each other in the Championship game of the Texas Shootout.  The Preps won a barn burner in a fittingly back and forth tight game to end the tournament.

Correction: The Alliance 18UAAA game vs. LA Selects was originally posted incorrectly as an Alliance loss.  The Bulldogs won the game 4-3.   Additional Game summaries will be provided as information is received, and visit the Weekend Games tab for all the results.

16U Midget Minor Prep:  Alliance Prep– 4, Alliance AA - 3:  It was good knowing Alliance would come away with a Championship, but it was bad thinking Alliance would also come away with a defeat.  A Championship was won, but there was absolutely no defeat, as the 2 Bulldog 16U Tier II teams went toe-to-toe with each other all night, and nothing was decided except that these are two very good hockey teams with a lot of potential for a great season to come.

Mite Prep:  Dallas Hawks Major - 4, Alliance - 3:  In their last game of the weekend, the Bulldogs showed the character and competitiveness that will hopefully define their season, as they scored all 3 of their goals in the 3rd period to finish strong and with momentum.  With the clock ticking down the final 20 seconds, the Bulldogs had at least 3 quality shots and scoring chances, with the Dallas Hawks Major goalie denying their bid to tie the game and send it into overtime.  Read more HERE...
