Alliance Launches New Web Site…
After
utilizing
www.alliancehockey.org
from the beginning, Alliance
Hockey is pleased to
announce that we will begin
using a new web site
platform with Team Sport
Technologies at
www.alliancebulldogs.org.
The
new platform provides for
newer and better
technologies and
software tools to allow for
easier management of
Alliance News and
Information, as well as
improving our abilities to
provide new services and
data management for our
Bulldog teams and team
managers.
In
addition to allowing for
secure on-line registrations
for tryouts, camps,
tournaments, and other type
of events, the new web site
will allow for the provision
of a new Alliance On-Line
Store. The Alliance
On-Line Store will provide
to our players, parents, and
coaches the ability to
shop, choose, and purchase
Alliance apparel,
merchandise, and other
related items.
The
new Alliance Hockey web site
will also allow for a more
diverse distribution of
the responsibilities of web
site information posting
by multiple people, reducing
the work load necessary to
keep team information up to
date regularly.
From this point forward,
ALL new information,
schedules, updates,
communications, team and
game related articles,
tryout information, player
selections, and any other
Alliance information will
ONLY be updated on the new
web site at
www.alliancebulldogs.org.
The
old
www.alliancehockey.org
web site will remain up and
on-line until most, if
not all, information
from the old site can be
transferred to the new web
site, which will be done as
time allows.

Kostopoulos Scores OT Winner in Stanley Cup
Playoffs...
Tom
Kostopoulos, brother of former Alliance
Founder/Director/Coach
Chris
Kostopoulos, scored just 0:48 seconds into the first overtime to
give the
Montreal Canadiens a
4-3 OT victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of
their Eastern Conference Semi-Final series of the NHL Stanley Cup
Playoffs last night in Montreal.
It was
Kostopoulos' 3rd goal of the playoffs, his first Stanley Cup
Playoff, and his first playoff overtime goal.
“It was really
exciting to score a goal like that. It’s definitely the biggest one
I’ve ever scored in my life,”
admitted Kostopoulos.
“But if Saku doesn’t win that crucial faceoff with 35 seconds left
and Kovy doesn’t score that huge goal to bail us out, I’d be sitting
here telling you about how on Saturday we need to bounce back from
being down 1-0 in this series.”
From
the Canadiens' web site...
Kostopoulos’ often-overlooked efforts may not normally make
headlines, but they sure hit home with his head coach.
“Players like Tom don’t always get the credit they deserve during
the regular season,” said
Guy Carbonneau, who also brought his lunch pail to every game in
his playing days.
“He works incredibly hard, blocks shots and kills penalties. What
he does for us often goes unnoticed. It’s his first taste of the
playoffs and I think he’ll remember this for a long time.”
During
his brother Chris' tenure with Alliance, Tom was routinely on the
ice with Bulldog players during his time off from the NHL, and
many Alliance players have come to know Tom well while skating with
him in practices.
His
example of hard work, perseverance, and dedication
to excellence in his preparation when playing hockey has always
been great for young players to see, and has paid off in the long
run as he continues his successful career in the National Hockey
League.
Alliance sends their congratulations to Tom, Chris, and the
Kostopoulos family on a memorable event.

Free Skate a Success, Attracts 500+ Players...
Alliance
was thrilled to see so many players come out this past Saturday to
the Free Skate And Meet The Coaches Day. With over
500 players participating in groups ranging
from Mite-Midget, the all day event turned out to be a big
success. The players showed a lot of enthusiasm and excitement
as they got to scrimmage and showcase their skills to the
coaches from the
Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club, Alliance
and
Dallas Ice Jets.
Families had the opportunity to meet the coaches and listen
to the latest developments regarding the
Stars AAA Spring Camp
and plans for the coming 08/09 fall season. Stars AAA Hockey
Director Karson Kaebel was impressed with the number of players and
parents who decided to take part in the event.
"This was a great hockey day for
everyone. The coaches had fun watching the players and the players
were able to let loose and enjoy the afternoon with friends
in a fun environment. It was a thrill to see such a large turnout
and so much interest in the new program. Everyone seems very
excited and optimistic for the future of this program and our
Spring Camp enrollment is at an all time high".
The
Stars AAA Spring Camp
officially begins April 26th. For those who have not
registered yet we encourage you to do so immediately as space is
limited and the program is getting close to being filled.

Alliance FREE Skate & Meet the
Coaches...
The Alliance Bulldogs are excited to announce there will be a Free
Skate And Meet The Coaches Day
on Saturday, April 19th at the DPSC (Polar Ice)
in Grapevine. This skate is in coordination with the
Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club and
the
Dallas Ice Jets, and will be offered to all players in the
DFW area.
Coaches from all 3 organizations are expected to be present and
ready to assist on the ice for their specific age group. This is
also a great time for future potential players to come out and skate.
It will also be a chance to get them signed up and excited for the
Stars AAA Spring Camp.
The Free skate is a great chance for players to come showcase their
skills in some drills and scrimmaging and compete with many of
the best players in the city for a fun afternoon of free
hockey. All players in the metroplex with birth years ranging
from 2002 to 1990 are encouraged to come out and skate as groups will
be divided from Mite - Midget.
Each skate will be an hour of competitive and challenging fun
with the coaches from all three organizations present. At the
conclusion of each individual group's skate, a meeting will be held
in order for parents and players to receive information regarding
the direction and plans for the teams heading into the future, and a
chance to meet and hear from all three organization's coaches.
We ask all players
to bring one dark and white jersey. Below is a list of times for
each respective group.
Please Note...1995's skate will be
Thursday April 17th at Polar Ice.

"So Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL"...
Alliance
doesn't typically advertise or promote products from outside sources via our
web site, but a product has come to our attention that we feel deserves
your consideration. At this time of year especially, many hockey
parents are earnestly trying to decide what is best for their player(s), and
what they should do regarding their participation in youth hockey.
Former NHL player Dan Bylsma and his Father Jay come to the
rescue with their book "So
Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL."
Do not let the title fool you, this book is NOT about a magical formula
to get to the NHL, but advice about raising your kids in the ever changing
world, and as it relates to the sport of youth hockey. Some of the
Questions addressed include...
-
How much
should they practice?
-
What level of competition is
appropriate?
-
How hard do you push?
-
What can you do to avoid burnout?
-
Why stress education?

From their web site...
One parent wrote "This is THE book for hockey parents. We have several hundred
books in our hockey library. Without a doubt, "So Your Son Wants To Play
In The NHL" is the single best publication I've read as a hockey parent
and amateur adult player".
In addition to their book,
which many of you may already know about and have possibly read, their web site
has many great resources for youth hockey parents, including an extensive
Question &
Answer section that covers
everything from "Should my Mite son play Squirt spring AAA hockey?"
to "How does a parent handle diminished ice time?"
Certainly every parent
handles these type of situations the way they feel best for them and their
player, but another perspective from an experienced parent and player
cannot hurt. We have found that many of their ideas are worth
considering.

The
Alliance Youth Hockey Association would like to congratulate former Alliance
Coach Greg Vanover on his new position as Head Coach of the

18U Midget Major AAA team. Vanover was most recently the
Head Coach of the Bulldog
16U
Midget Minor AAA

Alliance
would like to congratulate the 4 teams representing Dallas at the
USA Hockey National Championships
this past week. The Attack 16U Prep, Attack 14UAAA, and
DJHA 95AA all advanced to the Semi-Finals,
each bringing home a Bronze Medal. The Stars 18UAAA also
advanced to the Quarter-Finals.
The 3 teams that
each of the
local Bronze Medalists lost to in the Semis (2 in overtime) all went on to
win the National Championship. Quite a showing for Texas and Dallas

More NTDP Candidates Coming from the West...
A local
youth hockey enthusiast brought to our attention the following article from
the
PF Chang’s
website. Of special note are the three (3) players from the DFW Area
listed as a part of the group from the Rocky Mountain District.
Not only should everyone in Dallas know about these players, but should also
know that the quality and quantity of high level players from the RMD is
continually improving each year for the reasons indicated in the article.
In addition, with
the Attack 14UAAA still in the Semis, the 8 teams representing
the Rocky Mountain District at the
USA Hockey National Championships
all advanced at least to the Quarter-Finals, 4 advanced to the Semi-Finals,
and
are currently a combined 20-10-4 (W-L-OTL). Three (3) Dallas area teams
advanced to the Semi-Finals, and all 4 DFW teams are a
combined 13-3-2, with
the Attack 14UAAA
still in the title hunt.
The 2 OT losses for Dallas teams both came in the Semis, when DJHA '95AA
(12UTII) and Attack 16U Prep (16UTII) both fell just short, but each still bring
home a Bronze Medal - Congratulations!
Article
from the
PF Chang’s Website...
If
you are wondering where the ‘92s invited to next week’s
NTDP Evaluation Camp are coming from, we’ve broken it down by district.
To us, it further
illustrates the changing demographics of hockey in the U.S. As you see,
there are a total of 11 players from the Pacific and Rocky Mountain Districts
- specifically, the Los Angeles Basin (4), Las Vegas (1), Greater Phoenix (2),
Dallas (3), and Denver (1). That’s more than the New York-New
England-Mass-Atlantic districts combined.
We’re not saying
this is a good or bad thing. We’re just pointing out changes that are the
inevitable result of a population shift away from the Northeast. The fact that
these so-called non-traditional hockey areas are also home to NHL teams
has helped them grow the numbers. The rinks, and youth hockey programs, followed
the money, popping up in the suburbs of these cities. It’s all paying off now,
as is evident in the steadily-growing number of serious prospects.
Michigan:
10 (Accettura, Campbell, Gravel, Gunn, Knight, Merrill, Rust, Sinelli, Watson,
Yanakeff)
Minnesota:
8 (Bjugstad, Forbort, Gardiner, Isackson, Marshall, McMorrow, Pauluk, Rubbelke)
Rocky
Mountain:
6 (Fallon, Hargrove, McMinimy, Moffatt, Shore, St. Clair)
Pacific: 5 (Balisy, Etem, Nieto, Sooth, Zucker)
Central: 4 (Carruth, Mersch, Simonelli, Tynan)
New York:

Stars AAA
Informational Meeting Well Attended...
The
Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club Parent
Information Meeting at the DPSC (Farmers Branch)
was a huge success last night. Hundreds of
parents turned out to hear about the latest
details regarding the Attack, Alliance, Ice Jets
merger and the
2008 Stars Spring Camp. Stars AAA Hockey Club
President Ralph Searfoss shared the vision of the
'NEW' Stars AAA program with enthusiasm and
optimism as he explained the organizations
direction for the future. Alliance, Attack and Ice
Jet board members were all present and united in
the effort along with coaches from all three
organizations.
Cosmo Clarke,
one of the Stars AAA Hockey Directors & Alliance
Hockey Director was proud to see families from
so many associations in attendance.
"I believe this is one of the best things that
has happened to youth hockey in
Dallas. Bringing together the three most
successful youth hockey associations and having them
work together is a win-win situation for every
player, coach and family in the DFW area. It is
the right thing to do and we are committed as a
group to make it work'".

14U
Prep Bulldogs
Win
Bantam AA NTXHL
Championship!!!
Champions
- Bantam 14U
Prep
'Dogs Sweep Best 2 of 3 for League Title...
After
a solid and convincing shutout win in Game 1 earlier Saturday, the
14U Prep Bulldogs
won a wild one in Game 2 Saturday night to sweep the
Stars Selects
in their Best 2 of 3 Series to bring home the
NTXHL
Bantam AA Championship
for Alliance.
Alliance
started to build momentum early in Game 1 with a single tally in the first,
but continued to get better, scoring 2 more in the 2nd period, and then
finishing strong with another 3 in the final frame for the resulting
6-0 victory and a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 couldn't have been more
different.
After riding the
momentum evidently continuing from Game 1, the Bulldogs jumped out to
3-0 first period lead in Game 2, and looked to be cruising home for the
title after increasing their margin to 4-0 in the first minute of the second
frame. The Stars had different ideas, though, and did not quit playing
hard. The Stars let Alliance know they were still there with 3 goals in
under 2 minutes to make it 4-3, and it was now "Katy Bar the Door" time.
The wild middle
period would eventually see eleven (11) goals scored between the two
teams, with the Stars scoring again in the final minute of the period to make it
8-6 Bulldogs headed into the last period. The 2nd period must have
taken the gas out of both squads, as there was no more scoring until
Alliance iced the game with an empty-netter with only 26 seconds left.
The league title is the 14th for Alliance in it's 7 season history.

Frozen 4 - Upsets in 3 of 4 Games Mark Day 1...
The
NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament
kicked off yesterday, and based on our Bracket Contest
participants, there were 3 upsets in the first 4 games.
With
Michigan beating
Niagra
while being the only team in the
history of the contest to be picked by every person
to do so, the Wolverines were the only team to meet
expectations indicated by the majority of contestants.
Less
than a third of you out there called any of the other 3
games correctly,
with
Clarkson
(31%),
Michigan State
(32%),
and
Notre Dame
(24%) coming out
on top of their higher seeded opponents to advance.
With former
DJHA/Dallas Storm defenseman
Teddy Ruth (#5 in pic on the left) being a
game starter and earning a +3, Notre Dame
was
the biggest surprise in their solid 7-3 win over
#1 Regional/#4 National Seed
New Hampshire.
A
couple of new features available this year are the "Game
Tracker", and the "Streaming Audio"
broadcasts. You can get live updated box
scores, stats, and other details about each game as they

2008 Spring Training and Pre-Tryout Camp...
In
a cooperative agreement with the newly formed
Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club,
Alliance will not run an independent Spring Camp this
year, but will instead encourage Alliance players to
register for and participate in the Stars AAA Hockey
Club 2008 "Spring
Training and Pre-Tryout Camp".
Alliance Coaches will be a part of the Stars Camp and
will be working with all participants.
This years Spring Camp is developed through a
collaborated effort of the three most powerful and
elite AAA/AA hockey associations in the DFW metroplex.
The 'Texas Attack', 'Alliance Bulldogs' and 'Dallas Ice
Jets' have come together to produce the most dynamic
Spring Camp the state of TX has ever seen. All three
programs have had incredible success in developing
players and teams on a national level.
These outstanding programs and coaches have now come
together to offer it's leading edge instruction in
an 8 week camp. Entering a combined 7th year of Spring
Training we have once again 'raised the bar' in
delivering the most comprehensive and cutting edge
program in the country. To read more about the

announce the completion of its merger. The three former clubs will
now form one AAA hockey association recognized as the
Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club. All three organizations will begin a
partnership together with the Alliance and IceJets becoming the official AA
programs respectively and play under the flagship of the Dallas Stars AAA
Hockey Club.
All three
programs will work diligently to field the most competitive AA/AAA teams
possible in the 08/09 fall season and continue to build on it's foundation for
success at the local and national level. The collaboration of these three
programs will make it the largest hockey training and developing program in the
DFW area and one of the largest in the country.
In addition, the
three organizations are excited to announce the
2008 Stars Spring Training and Pre-tryout Camp. This 8 week Camp will
promise to be the best off-season training ground for all players across
the metroplex.
Along with
providing highly competitive youth hockey teams and training, the programs will
all focus on the best interest of the players and family members, and emphasize
the development of both life and hockey skills for all participants.

Current
State and Future of Alliance...
With all the
attention and focus on the new AAA program indicated above, some confusion and
misunderstanding has been rumored about the state and future of Alliance.
The Alliance Executive Board
would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that we
strongly believe that the future of Alliance couldn't be brighter.
With the AAA teams,
coaches, and players now provided with the information and organization designed
specifically for them, the Alliance Executive Board is turning its complete
attention and focus to the teams and players that will compete for State,
Regional, and National Championships at the Tier II level.
Teams
Tier
I - AAA
For the first time since the
2003-2004 season, Alliance will not field any Tier I/AAA teams.
During the 4 seasons that Alliance fielded Tier I/AAA teams, those Bulldogs
teams won 3 Rocky Mountain District Championships and advanced to 3
USA Hockey National Championships, one bringing home a Bronze Medal.
There were 4 Tier I/AAA teams within Alliance last season, 3 the year before
that, and only 2 each during the two seasons before that.
Starting with the 2008-2009
season, Alliance will work closely with the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey
program to move our Tier II players to that program when they are ready to
compete at that level, joining many former Bulldog players that will be
playing for that program. For information about the Dallas Stars AAA
Hockey program, click
HERE...
Tier II AA/A
The staple of our
program since its inception in 2001, our AA/A teams will compete for
the NTXHL Championships at their respective age levels, as well as for
the Tier II State, Regional, and National Championships. Many current and
former Alliance players that have moved
on to the Tier I/AAA level and higher began their Bulldog careers on one of our
Tier II AA/A teams.
In the 7-year history of
Alliance, Tier II Bulldog teams have been to 4 USA Hockey National
Championships, won 2 Bronze Medals, captured 4 Rocky Mountain
District Championships, won 10 Texas State Championships, and brought
home 13 League Championships.
Following the move of our former Tier
I program to the Dallas Stars AAA, Alliance will re-focus our complete
attention to the development of Tier II players, and
prepare them to compete at the Tier I/AAA level if and when they are ready and
willing. The reduction of the Alliance number of teams by four (Tier I)
will allow for more efficiency in our operation and more attention
available to be given to our Tier II teams and their development.
Just a note of
statistical interest, of the 1,001 total roster spots fielded by
Alliance in its history, only 195 (19%) of those were Tier I spots.
That is the portion of Alliance that has been merged into the Stars AAA
program. We still have the remaining 81% to train and develop.
Coaches
With
the renewed focus on Tier II hockey only, the Alliance Hockey Association
brought back into the fold the very well respected and nationally recognized
Cosmo Clarke
as our new Director of Coaches. Under Cosmo's leadership, the coaching
staff of Alliance is being filled with experienced and knowledgeable staff to
further the development of youth players to the highest level they wish to
achieve.
Now that the
coaching positions for the Stars AAA program have been filled, Cosmo will be
able to complete his hiring of Alliance coaches, and those will be announced
as soon as he has filled all of the remaining positions.

Alliance Seeks
Volunteers for 2009 National Championships…
When
the
official hosts and sites for the
2009 USA Hockey National Championships were announced last fall by USA Hockey, the Alliance Youth Hockey Association
was
selected to host the 14 & Under Bantam Tier I and Tier II Championships
in Frisco, Texas April 1-5, 2009.
Alliance would like to provide opportunities to be involved not only to Alliance players, coaches, and
families, we would also like to see that every youth hockey
association in the DFW metroplex be represented on the
volunteer staff as well. The
benefits of hosting this event extend not only to the host association and its
participating teams, but also to the other local associations and the community
at large.
With that in mind,
Alliance needs to know about those that would be interested in volunteering to
help. To read more about the opportunities to volunteer and help with
the 2009 National Championships, click

MHOA, Reinhard, DFW Hockey Helping One of Our Own…
If you haven't
heard already, the realities of life
have fallen upon one of our own Alliance Coaches, bringing
many things back to perspective. Alliance 14U Prep Coach
David Fry and his family
suffered a tragedy this week when their home burned
completely, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on
their backs as they escaped the house before it was consumed
by fire.
As
you can imagine, an outpouring of support, help, and
assistance began to flow toward David and his family
immediately from many people and associations in the DFW Hockey
Community. For all those that have come forward and helped
in many ways, the Alliance Bulldog family sends its most
grateful appreciation and thanks.
One such organization that has
been unbelievably supportive and generous has been the
Metroplex Hockey Officials Association (MHOA), under the
direct and personal involvement of their President -
Ken Reinhard.
In addition, Ken has personally facilitated the creation of a
special fund to help David and his family in their critical
time of need.
For those of you wishing to make personal
contributions to assist David and his family, checks can be made
out to "David Fry Home Fund Benefit Account", account
number
2362877557, and mailed or brought to any
Frost Bank branch.
For Frost Bank locations, please go to https://www.frostbank.com/cgi-bin/ecomm/frost1/scripts/maps/start.jsp.
Please note the account number should be placed in the memo
area ( lower left) of the check.
Thank you
Ken Reinhard and MHOA, we appreciate your kindness and
generosity.

Alliance
Welcomes Back Cosmo Clarke…
The Alliance Youth Hockey Association is pleased and excited to welcome
back one of our own, as former Bulldog coach
Cosmo Clarke
has joined the Alliance Hockey staff as the new Director of Coaches.
In addition to his duties for Alliance, Cosmo will also work on staff
with the newly formed Dallas Stars AAA program, and is currently
involved in helping put that program together along with the Attack/Ice
Jet coaching staff.
After
successfully coaching Alliance teams for the 4 seasons previous to
2007-2008, Cosmo made a decision to take a break from coaching travel
hockey, and Alliance has sorely missed his presence behind the
bench and around the rink. We look forward to seeing Cosmo coming back
into the fold and leading the Bulldog coaching staff, as well as
being one of the founding members of the Dallas Stars AAA program and
hockey staff.
For those
of you that know Cosmo, please let him know how excited we are to
have him back as a Bulldog, and if you don’t know him, take the time
to introduce yourself when you get the chance. This move will
definitely add more quality leadership, expertise, knowledge, and
experience to our already top rated coaching staff.

Thanks...
Even after
considering the events that have unfolded the last few days regarding changes at
Alliance, the Alliance Youth Hockey Association would like express their
appreciation to Shannon Smith for all the work and dedication she volunteered
for Alliance the past 2 seasons. She took on numerous roles and
responsibilities, and worked many hours both publicly, as well as behind the
scenes on behalf of Alliance. As well as being President, she served as the
Alliance NTXHL representative, TAHA representative, and Ice Scheduler.
In addition, she
also headed up Alliance Hospitality efforts for the Dallas Cups and Rocky
Mountain District Championships, and was part of the team that helped host USA
Hockey when they came to visit regarding the National Championships. The
Alliance Youth Hockey Association is appreciative of her efforts, and wishes her
the best in the future.

Alliance/Ice Jets/Attack form New AAA Program...
Dallas youth
hockey continues to evolve, and the evolution is fueled by a desire to
develop better programs for the participants. It all starts with A level
hockey, then moves to AA, and eventually AAA hockey.
Those of us
that have been around for the longest time believe that we must have
collaboration and consolidation to have a AAA hockey association that
competes on an international level. The benefits from having a working
relationship creates a roadmap for players from Mites to Juniors.
Challenged in
Dallas by the small census of youth hockey
players, we work with to fill out our top teams. We have made lots of
advancements during the past 7 years – National Champions and many teams
making it to Nationals. Players moving on to Juniors, getting full college
scholarships, and even being drafted into the NHL.
To kick our
progress in to hyper-speed, we are please to announce a collaboration between
the Alliance, Attack, Ice Jets, and the Dallas Stars Midget Major AAA Hockey
Club.
For the
2008-2009 season and beyond, a new AAA organization will be created.
Teams will play under the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club brand.
Players from this program will feed to
Dallas Stars Major Midget
AAA
hockey program,
and on through to the Junior A Texas Tornado.
The Dallas
Stars have been around the longest, are well funded, and have been very
successful in moving players on to Juniors and College. The Alliance/Ice
Jets/Attack are well managed with great winning traditions, and a legacy of
player development.
This agreement
has the full support of the
Dallas Stars,
the
Dr. Pepper StarCenters,
and the Executive Boards of the Alliance, Ice Jets, and Texas Attack.
The Coaches
for the new Dallas Stars AAA teams will come from the existing coaching
staffs of these organizations, and additional coaches will be brought on to
complement this arrangement as necessary.
Spring
Training Program:
One Spring Training Program will be offered and operated by a combined
staff. A staple of youth hockey in the past, it will be bigger, better more
advanced than ever.
Alliance
and Ice Jets:
These two storied and highly successful programs will continue to develop
players, forming and operating AA and A teams to feed players into
the new Stars AAA program.
Four years ago
this month, the original proposed merger between Alliance and the Ice Jets
failed to be completed. Indicated below is a portion of the letter posted to
the Alliance web site and sent to Alliance families on March 5, 2004…
“The Ice
Jets have a fine hockey association and provide a quality product for their
families and players, as well does the Alliance Association. In attempting to
try and bring these two organizations together, there were several fundamental
issues on which we could not come to a complete agreement. We wish the Ice Jets
Hockey Association all the best, and anticipate a time in the future when the
possibility of working together might be reconsidered.”
It is the
same founding members of Alliance and Ice Jets that have made this agreement,
with their 6-7 year history and experience as the backdrop and foundation.
Call it
prophetic or whatever you want, but 4 years ago we developed a trust in one
another that would allow us to eventually work together, when the timing was
right and the circumstances appropriate.
The
circumstances are now appropriate, and the timing is right.

Bulldogs Moving up to Juniors, NCAA…
Matt
Shost & Michael Hill - First Alliance Players to
Sign NAHL Tenders

In just it’s
first season, the Alliance
18U Midget Major AAA team has already paid dividends to a couple of their
players. Bulldog defenseman
Matt Shost
(1990) and forward
Michael Hill
(1990) have each signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL)
tender with the
Wichita Falls Wildcats.
Shost
is an original Bulldog, starting with Alliance as a member of their
inaugural Squirt A team for the 2001-2002 season. He has been to three (3)
USA Hockey National Championships representing Alliance – in 2004 with the
Tier II
14U Bantam AA
(Bronze Medal), in 2005 with the
Tier I 14U Bantam AAA,
and last season with the
Tier I Midget Minor AAA
team (Bronze Medal).
Hill has spent
the past two seasons with Alliance, and also won a Bronze Medal at the
2007 USA Hockey National Championships with his Alliance
Tier I
Midget Minor AAA
team. Prior to coming to Alliance, Michael was with Shattuck St. Mary’s
for one season, and was with the California Wave prior to that.

'Dogs Take Crown in St. Louis, Good Weekend
for Bulldog Teams...
There
were just a few Alliance teams in action this past weekend, but those that were
made some hay with their chances. The Bulldog teams playing last weekend
garnered a combined 19-6-2 record in their respective tournaments.
The big
winner was the
14U Bantam AAA
team, as they went undefeated with a 5-0-0 record and won the
Top Flight Tournament
Championship in St. Louis. The
Mite Preps
also went undefeated at 4-0-0 in
Kansas City at the
KC Stars Mite Jamboree.
The
Squirt AA,
12U PeeWee AA,
and
16U Midget Minor AA
teams all had
good weekends as well, with each having only 1 loss among their combined
14 games.
All the game results can be seen by going to our "Weekend

Undefeated in Kansas City
Mite Jamboree . . .
Mite Prep:
Bulldogs – 10,
Kansas City Saints – 0:
The Bulldogs completed
an undefeated weekend with a 10-0 defeat of
the
Kansas City Saints.
The Saints
never knew what hit them as the Bulldogs
overwhelming speed and conditioning allowed
them to attack the net repeatedly. As was
the case all weekend, the Bulldog attack was
relentless.
Although no “champion” was
named in the
Kansas City Stars Mite Jamboree, the 4-0
Bulldogs were clearly the most dominant team
having outscored their opponents by a total
score of 29-5. The Bulldogs extended their
overall winning streak to 6 games and pulled
to .500 for the season.

Alliance
Coach Jouni Lehtola Honored as Local Hockey Hero…
(Alliance Squirt
Prep Coach Jouni Lehtola, who also serves as the Alliance Director of Coaches
for Mites - PeeWees, was honored by the Dallas Stars at their game with the
Detroit Redwings on Sunday. The following article is reprinted from
DallasStars.com with permission of the Dallas Stars)
Lehtola True
Pioneer of Metroplex Youth Hockey
By John
Tranchina
As part of the USA
Hockey ‘Hockey
Weekend Across America’ initiative, Sunday, Feb. 17 was designated as
‘Honor your local hockey hero’ day.
The Dallas Stars
presented an award and gift during their home game Sunday afternoon at the
American Airlines Center to a true hero, Jouni Lehtola,
in recognition of his lengthy list of contributions to DFW youth hockey.
Lehtola is an
extremely worthy honoree, as he could very well be considered the ‘father of
Metroplex youth hockey.’ Hired by the Dallas Stars shortly after the club
arrived in town from Minnesota in 1993, Lehtola basically started the local
youth hockey program from scratch and helped build it up to the point that
now, just 15 years later, there are thousands of kids playing hockey here and
the area is producing elite-level talent in all age groups.
“He was the
original hockey program manager for the Dallas Stars from 1993-97, but he’s
never stopped being involved in youth hockey,” noted Keith Andresen, Senior
Director of Hockey Programs and Ice Scheduling for the Dallas Stars. “He’s been
involved, not only at the local level as a coach and administrator for several
organizations, but he’s always been involved with the USA Hockey camps. He is,
right now, coaching with the
Alliance Bulldogs Youth
Hockey Association and is the current coach-in-chief of the Texas Amateur
Hockey Association, so he’s basically the head coach for all of Texas and
Oklahoma.
“And that’s why
we’re honoring him, but he’s also a hockey hero, because part of Hockey Weekend
Across America, on Sunday, is honor your local hockey heroes. And that’s why we
chose Jouni - there’s so many people we can thank, all of our youth volunteer
coaches. We’re going to honor them in our game program and on our website, but
we wanted to pick out one person to kind of represent all of those people and
Jouni has certainly put in the time and effort to better the youth hockey
programs, not only for the Dallas Stars, but for the DFW hockey community
and the entire state of Texas.”

Championship on Saturday, as they completed a sweep of
the Texas Attack 16UAAA in their best 2 of 3

PeeWee
AAA “RUNNER-UP” in State Championships...
Tier I - 12U
Division:
Texas Attack – 4, Alliance Bulldogs – 3:
The 2nd game of the “best of 3” series for the
State
Championship,
Alliance came on the ice fired up, ready to win game 2. The Texas
Attack '95AAA
were ready to ensure the
series did not go to a 3rd game. The Attack opened up the scoring
earning 2 goals in the first period.
Alliance tied the game at 2
with a beautiful break-away goal and then a great open ice pass, but would never
take the lead. The Attack answered back with two more goals, and when the
Bulldogs added goal number 3, the Attack switched goalies to try to stop any
more points by Alliance. Though Alliance played excellent hockey throughout,
the scoreboard never changed in their favor and the Attack took game 2 with a
final score of 4-3.
The Alliance Bulldogs
PeeWee AAA wishes the Texas Attack “GOOD LUCK” as they face the Colorado
Thunderbirds next month at Regionals.

just after the start of the game. The Attack continued to try to put one in the
net but to no avail during the rest of the period. Period 2 started much the
same way as the Bulldogs once again found the net within the first minute of
play. The Attack took advantage of a Bulldog penalty and managed to get their

HUGE
Weekend, and Everyone Plays...
It's
the biggest weekend of the season, and the one and only
weekend when all 14 Bulldog teams are in action at the same time.
Of course, the
State
Championships will consume the passion and energy of 7 Alliance teams,
and the other 7 teams will be in NTXHL action.
The tournament heats up quickly, with 7 games today, starting this
afternoon. By virtue of their 2-0-0 record last weekend, the
Alliance 18UAAA
team has
already secured a spot in the State Final against the
Dallas Stars AAA, as well as one of the 2 Texas spots in the
2008 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Littleton, Colorado.
The
other 3 Alliance Tier I teams will be in best 2 of 3 series with
their rival Texas Attack teams, with the winners claiming a State Championship
banner. Both the Alliance and Attack will advance to the
RMD Championships
in each of the 16U and 14U brackets, with only the 12U Champion advancing
to RMD. The Alliance
18U Preps,
16U Preps,
and
14U Preps
will all be playing for the Tier II State Championship as well this
weekend, with the winner in each bracket also advancing to the
RMD Championships.

USA Hockey National Championships -
A Look Back…
With
teams beginning the long trek this weekend to
a possible berth in the
2008 National Championships, and the
2009 USA Hockey National Championships
headed our way, we thought it might be interesting
and informative to those not familiar with the
Championships (as they are routinely called),
to provide a look back at the Nationals
in which Alliance has participated, with current
and former Bulldog players, parents, siblings, and
friends.
Having the
privilege to play in a National Championship is
a rare opportunity for most, and typically,
significant memories are established during the
experience. It is the objective of this area
of the web site to re-kindle some of those
memories, have some fun, and communicate them to
those interested as we approach hosting one in
our own back yard.

Exciting Alliance Dallas Cup
Crowns 4 Champs Again...
The
2008 Alliance
Dallas Cup wrapped up action yesterday, with another 4 new champions
taking home a crown. After 72 games between 35 different teams, overtimes,
double overtimes, Quarters and Semis, banners were rolled out for each Division
winner.
In
the newly added
18UAA Division, the
Phoenix Polar Bears
handed the
Darien
Huskies
their only loss of the tournament in the final to become the inaugural
Champions in that division.
In the
16UAAA Division, the
Colorado
Thunderbirds '91
finally got the title they
have sought for 3 years, holding off the
Shattuck
St. Mary's
boys from Minnesota in the title game.
In
the
16UAA bracket, the local boys from the
Texas
Attack Prep
brought home the first Dallas Cup title for their
program, rebounding from a preliminary round loss to the
Mission
Arizona Ice
with a solid shutout win when it counted most in the final.
The Attack gang wasn't
satisfied with just the one trophy, so the
Texas
Attack '93
Bantam team also took revenge from an earlier loss to
Shattuck St. Mary's
by beating them in the
14UAAA championship game to get another banner for the orange and black.
