'Dogs Gain Silver Stick Semi-Finals in Canada...

The Alliance Squirt AA team started off the 2008 International Silver Stick Finals Pelham, Ontario with a bang Thursday, downing the Midland Michigan Northstars 9-3.

The Bulldogs needed just 1:22 in the opener to put the first of nine pucks in the net, and went on to build a 4-0 lead before Midland Michigan got on the scoreboard with 1:18 left in the 2nd period.  Alliance opened up a 5-goal lead at 7-2 in the 3rd period before cruising home with the victory.

Alliance took on the
Stouffville Clippers in the second game of the tournament, and gave the defending champions a run for their money before falling, 2-1.  Stouffville took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period and added its last goal at the 4:04 mark of the 2nd period for a 2-0 advantage.  The Bulldogs didn't quit, though, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with 5:42 left in the game.  However, the Bulldogs couldn't find the net the rest of the way and dropped to 1-1 in the tournament.

Alliance suffered a 7-0 setback at the hands of the
Port Perry Predators in its first of two games Friday to finish pool play at 1-2, good for the third seed. Neither team scored in the 1st period and Port Perry held just a 2-0 lead after two periods.

In a win-or-go-home game Friday afternoon, Alliance jumped on the
Caledonia Thunder with three goals in the first period and hung on to stay alive in the tournament with a 3-2 victory.  The Bulldogs scored 3:09 into the game and added two late goals in the 1st period for a 3-0 lead.  Neither team scored in the 2nd period, and the Thunder mounted a late charge with two goals in the 3rd period, the last coming with 2:23 left in the game, before the Bulldogs shut the door on any comeback hopes.

The Bulldogs' second win of the tournament pushed them through to the Tier II semifinals, where they took the
Capital Thunder to the wire.  Alliance turned in a solid performance and found itself locked in a 3-3 battle late in the third before the Thunder, from Sacramento, Calif., scored the game-winner with under a minute left in the game.
