Alliance Defense Solved, Bulldogs Take First Fall...

Little Caesars - 3, Alliance - 0:  It was another shutout, but the tables were turned on the Bulldogs, as they fell victim to the whitewash themselves at the hands of the Hosts in the Semi-Finals of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup Sunday morning.

Alliance hung tough in the first period, battling the hometown boys to a scoreless tie after an opening period of action.  Little Caesars started to wear down Alliance in the 2nd, and the result was an even strength tally along with another goal with the man advantage for a 2-0 lead headed into the final period of play.  Caesars added an insurance goal at even strength in the final frame for the 3-0 victory and berth into the Final.

Detroit Little Caesars became just the 4th team to score on Alliance at this point of the season, and shut down the Bulldogs offense.  After playing 10 tough games in the last 2 weekends, the Bulldogs will take their 9-1-0 record into a well deserved break, and will see their next action in 3 weeks when they host the Nevada Stars in a couple of exhibition games in Valley Ranch.

'Dogs Cruise into Motor City Semi-Finals...

Alliance - 2, Nevada Stars - 0:  The Bulldog goaltending and defense must be doing something right, as Alliance got their 6th shutout in only 9 games to open the season, and beat the Nevada Stars 2-0 in the Quarter-Finals of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup late Saturday night.

In a tight game with the shots just about even at Alliance 24 - Stars 22, the first period was close as well, and the two teams headed into the second period with the score still at 0-0.  The Bulldogs then scored the only two tallies of the contest, as they got a shorthanded goal and an even strength goal for a 2-0 margin at the end of 2 periods of play.  The final period was more of the same, with neither team able to light the lamp, and the Bulldogs took another shutout.

Alliance will now advance to the Semi-Finals on Sunday morning, when they will square off against Detroit Little Caesars, who also come into the Semis at 4-0 for the weekend.  These 2 teams last faced each other in the Quarter-Finals of the 2007 USA Hockey National Championships, where the Bulldogs came away with a 5-0 shutout win.

Alliance - 4, Milwaukee Phoenix - 1:  The Bulldogs beat the Milwaukee Phoenix by a score of 4-1 early Saturday morning in Detroit, and earned a spot in the Quarter-Finals of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup.   After trading goals in the opening frame, the teams headed to the 2nd with the score 1-1.

The Bulldogs got their first goal at even strength, with the boys from Wisconsin getting theirs on the power play.  In the second period, Alliance took control on the scoreboard with 2 more even strength tallies for a 3-1 lead after 2 periods of play.  While out-shooting the Phoenix 46-15 for the game, the 3rd period remained scoreless until the Bulldogs added an empty-netter for the final 4-1 margin.

With their 3-0 record in the tournament, Alliance advances to the Quarter-Finals, and will have to wait until later in the day to see who they play and when.

Very Light Weekend, But 16AAA Already Into It...

It will probably end up being the lightest game schedule of any weekend this season, but the only Bulldog team playing this weekend is already in the win column again.  With most other Alliance teams still recovering from the big Labor Day Weekend, and many getting prepared for the big NTXHL Scheduling Meeting on Saturday, the Alliance 16UAAA ran their season opening win streak to 7.

Alliance - 3, Mahoning Valley - 1:  The Bulldogs won game 1 of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup early Friday morning in Detroit, beating the Mahoning Valley Phantoms by a score of 3-1.  Alliance scored in the first on an even strength goal, and took a 1-0 lead into the second period.   The teams traded tallies in the second frame, with Alliance getting a shorthanded goal, and the Phantoms getting a 5 on 3 power play goal.  The teams played it fairly even in the 3rd, with the Bulldogs adding an empty-netter to ice the game.

Alliance - 3, Mercer Chiefs - 0:  The Bulldogs rolled to their seventh straight win to open the season, and collected their 5th shutout in that span as they blanked the Mercer Chiefs in game 2 of the Little Caesars Motor City Cup Friday afternoon in Detroit.

Even though out-shooting the Chiefs by a margin of 41-8 on the day, Alliance could not strike pay-dirt until a second period even strength tally gave them a 1-0 lead headed into the final frame.  The Bulldogs added 2 more goals in the 3rd, both with the man advantage, and skated off with the 3-0 white-washing.

Alliance will look to for 8 straight and a berth into the quarter-finals, when they play Game 3 against the Milwaukee Phoenix on Saturday morning.  The Phoenix is the 16UAAA team from the same program that fielded last seasons 18U Tier II National Finalist, the Phoenix Force, which beat the Alliance 18U Preps in overtime of Game 1 of the 2007 National Championships.

'Dogs Finish Strong on Labor Day Monday...

Alliance - 3, LA Selects - 0:  It was a good weekend for Alliance, as the 16UAAA team went unbeaten in their 5 games of the Jr. Sharks Labor Day Shootout in San Jose, scoring 20 goals, allowing only 3, while collecting 4 shutouts along the way.

Coming fresh off the heels of their Bronze Medal performance at the 2007 USA Hockey National Championships, the Bulldogs have started the season off nicely, but it is a long season ahead of them.  The Bulldogs completed their trip to San Jose with a final tilt on Labor Day Monday, blanking the the LA Selects by a score of 3-0.   The Jr. Sharks Shootout is not a tournament, and does not have any playoffs, or determine a champion.

The Bulldogs have little to no time to rest at all, as they hit the road again this week, when they travel to Detroit to play in the Little Caesar's Motor City Cup
