PeeWees Advance to Final, Fall to Thunderbirds...

12U PeeWee AAA:  Winning Game 1 against the Attack '94 earned the Bulldogs a spot in the final, where they played a good game against the big and talented Colorado Thunderbirds, but still fell 6-0 at the 2007 Rocky Mountain District Championships on Sunday morning in Frisco.  The Bulldogs got great goaltending and played tough defense to keep the T-Birds well below their 10-goal RMD average.

Dallas Cup Crowns 4 New Champions...

The 2007 version of the Dallas Cup was concluded in exciting fashion Sunday, and there are 4 new Champions.  In the 16UAAA Division, PF Chang's used the momentum of a 3-2 double overtime win in the Semi-Finals to propel themselves to a 4-1 win in the Championship over the Colorado Thunderbirds.  In the 16UAA Division, the Alliance Bulldog Prep team turned the tables on the Palm Beach IceHawks, handing them their only loss of the tournament after losing to them earlier in preliminary play, and won when it counted most in the final, 4-0.

In the 14UAAA Division, the Florida Everblades did the same, taking down the Texas Attack in the final 4-3, after having lost to them on Saturday. In the 12UAAA Division, the Phoenix Firebirds completed their sweep through the tournament, beating the Alliance Bulldogs in the final 4-2, the same score they posted against one another on Saturday as well.

It was a great weekend, and the Alliance Hockey Association congratulates all the participating teams on a well-played tournament, great competition, and camaraderie among all players, parents, and coaches during the tournament.  A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the Alliance parents that helped out and extended a hand of Texas hospitality to our out of state visitors, and we look forward to another great Dallas Cup in 2008.

12UAAA Takes a Hard First Loss in Nike/Bauer Invite...

Chicago Mission - 8, Alliance - 0:  Facing one of their toughest tests yet this season, the Bulldogs came out flat and were blanked by the Chicago Mission in Game 3 of the Nike/Bauer AAA International Invite in Chicago on Saturday morning.  After almost nine minutes of scoreless action in the first period, the Mission tallied 3 goals in under 5 minutes to open up a 3-0 lead headed into the 2nd period.

The Bulldogs put a stop to the scoring for the first 6 plus minutes of the middle frame, but Chicago found the touch again and repeated their first period effort with 3 more before the period would end at 6-0.  Two more tallies in the final period would round out the scoring for Chicago's 3rd straight win and the Bulldogs' first loss of the tournament.  Chicago has now outscored its 3 opponents by a 22 to 1 margin.

An Alliance win tonight over the Pittsburgh Hornets will give the Bulldogs a 2nd Place finish in their division, and a berth in the Consolation Championship Game on Sunday.

PeeWees Win Wild One to go 2 and 0 in Chicago...

Alliance - 5, Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets - 4:  After falling behind 1-0 after one period for the second time in the day, the Bulldogs rallied to tie it in a wild and goal-filled 2nd period, and then got the game winner in the final period to beat the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets in Game 2 of the Nike/Bauer AAA International Invite in Chicago on Friday afternoon.

After it looked like the first period would end scoreless, Ohio struck twice within a minute, first with a goal in the waning seconds of the opening period, and then increased their lead to 2-0 with another tally in the opening seconds of the second period.  The Bulldogs continued to play hard, and were rewarded for their efforts as they blitzed the Jackets with 3 goals in a five minute span in the middle of the period to take a 3-2 lead at the 9:04 mark, hitting twice on the power play.

The Jackets had no quit in themselves either, and they responded right back with 2 tallies of their own, one short-handed and one on the man advantage, to go back on top at 4-3 within the next 3 minutes.  Alliance stayed right with Ohio, though, and scored on the power play again just over a minute later to even it all up at 4-4 headed into the final period.

The wild and frantic 2nd period seemed to take a little out of each squad, and the final period was limited to the game winner by Alliance, scored even strength at the 4:30 mark, while the rest of the period was skated scoreless.  With the win, Alliance goes to 2 and 0 in the tournament headed into Saturday action against 2 very tough teams in the Chicago Mission  and the Pittsburgh Hornets.

12UAAA Dogs Take Bite out of Sharks in Nike/Bauer Opener...

Alliance - 3, San Jose Jr. Sharks - 2:  After falling behind 1-0 after one period of play, the Bulldogs roared back with 3 unanswered goals, and then hung on for the win over the San Jose Sharks in Game 1 of the Nike/Bauer AAA International Invite in Chicago on Friday morning.  The first 10 minutes of the opening frame were scoreless, until the Sharks found the back of the net at the 10:06 mark to take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The one goal lead was quickly erased in the second period, as the Bulldogs knotted it up at 1-1 with a goal at the 5:24 mark, then took their first lead with another tally late in the period to carry a 2-1 margin into the final frame.  Alliance would increase their lead to 3-1 just over a minute into the 3rd period, and they would later rely on that 3rd goal for the margin of victory as the Sharks re-found the touch to make it 3-2 with almost 10 minutes still left to play.  The Bulldog defense and net-minding would then take over, and shut out the Sharks the rest of the way for a nice opening win.

Bulldogs Take Down Team Illinois in Motor City...

Alliance - 7, Team Illinois - 2:  Facing their 3rd straight good team from the Midwest Elite AAA League, the Bulldogs finally adjusted and showed their capabilities in a nice win over Team Illinois in Game 3 of the HoneyBaked/Compuware Invitational in Detroit on Saturday morning.   The Bulldogs ended up tied with Team Illinois for 4th Place in their conference and will play a consolation game against Victory Honda on Sunday before heading back home.

Chicago Young Americans, LA Hockey Club, and Detroit CompuWare all advanced to the Quarter-Finals from Alliance's conference, with CompuWare going undefeated in their preliminary games, and CYA & LA only taking a loss each to CompuWare.

Alliance Drops Game 2 in Detroit...

Chicago Young Americans - 5, Alliance - 1:  After a tough opener, the Bulldogs had to come back against another good team from the Midwest Elite AAA League, this time facing the Chicago Young Americans in Game 2 of the HoneyBaked/Compuware Invitational in Detroit on Friday night.   After a scoreless first period, CYA pulled away from Alliance in the final two frames for a 5-1 win.  It was the second win of the tournament for the Americans, as they beat TPH Thunder by a score of 6-0 earlier in the day.  The Bulldogs will play Game 3 on Saturday against Team Illinois who split their 2 games on Friday, falling to LA Hockey Club 6-1 and beating TPH Thunder 7-2.

Bulldogs Blanked by CompuWare...

CompuWare - 7, Alliance - 0:  Facing one of the top teams in the nation and possibly North America, the Bulldogs discovered another level of competition in their first tournament action of the season, falling to Detroit CompuWare in Game 1 of the HoneyBaked/Compuware Invitational in Detroit on Friday afternoon.   CompuWare came into their first tournament of the year following an outstanding 2005-2006 season, that saw them rack up an impressive 54-6-6 overall record, including an outstanding 24-1-3 mark in the Midwest Elite AAA League, arguably the top Tier I league in the country.

Their season included no less than six (6) different championships, so if there is any comfort in the defeat, it is that the Bulldogs fell to a very talented and quality team and program, who has done the same to many other teams as well.  The Bulldogs will shake the dust of this game off quickly, as they hit the ice again later tonight when the will square off against the Chicago Young Americans.

12U PeeWee AAA Shuts out Attack...

Alliance - 5, Texas Attack '95AAA - 0:  Using quick puck movement and use of the defensive points, the Alliance 12U PeeWee AAA team also added 3 shorthanded tallies to spark a 5-0 shutout over the Texas Attack '95AAA team Sunday afternoon at Valley Ranch.  After controlling play in the opening period by out-shooting the Attack 7 to 2, the Bulldogs struck late for a 1-0 lead with only 2:02 remaining in the 1st period, on the first of their 3 shorties on the day.  On the Attack's 3rd man advantage of the period, Alliance chipped the puck into the neutral zone for a break-away that was nicely converted via the five hole of a goalie that looked like he was about to make a great save.

Alliance would strike again on the penalty kill at the 11:00 mark of the second, as a Bulldog fore-checker stole the puck and came in on the left of the Attack net-minder and scored for a 2-0 lead.  Only 22 seconds later, it was deja-vu all over again, as for the 3rd time Alliance would get a short-handed break-away to make it 3-0 with 10:38 left in the second period.  After the first 4 penalties went against Alliance, the Bulldogs finally got their chance on the man advantage, getting a 5 on 3 for more than a minute at just over 9 minutes to play in the 2nd.  The Bulldogs moved the puck around very well, but were unable to get any real quality scoring chances against the Attack defense.  Alliance again controlled play, out-shooting the Attack 7 to 3 in the period and 14 to 5 through 2 periods of play.

In the 3rd and final frame, the older Bulldogs appeared to begin to wear down the younger Attack, as the puck was in the Attack end for much of the period.  The Bulldogs finally got their first even strength goal, when a nice feed from behind the net was banged in from close range at the 12:13 mark for a 4-0 Alliance lead.  The final tally was in the last minute, as a hard-working Bulldog was rewarded with a goal after hanging tough at the post to make it 5-0 with only 35 seconds left in the contest.  Alliance out-shot the Attack in the 3rd period by a 9 to 2 margin, and 23 to 7 for the game.  Alliance penalty killers obviously did a great job, keeping the Attack off the scoreboard in 6 tries, to go along with the 3 short-handers.  Alliance was 0 for 3 on the man advantage.

Alliance Goalie Places 3rd at National Competition...

Alliance would like to congratulate PeeWee 12U AAA Bulldog goaltender Anthony Masucci, as he recently was nationally recognized for placing 3rd in the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation Got Skills Competition National Championships held in New York City in June.  Most of the NHL cities had players and goalies there who won their respective regional events, such as the Nashville Predators, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers, and others.

Anthony was representing the Dallas Stars Region, and barely missed out on capturing the National Championship, which eventually went to a net-minder representing the Philadelphia Flyers Region.

The 'Best Goalie' competition runs at the same time as the Shootout event for the shooters, and consists of multiple rounds of breakaways designed to produce a winner based on save percentage.  The event culminates in an exciting session that pits the goalies with the highest scores from the first round(s) against each other.  The number of rounds, and number of goaltenders that advance from round to round, is dependent on the number of goaltenders in the competition.

The "Got Skills" is the ultimate youth hockey skills event for pre-teen boys and girls and their families.  This one of a kind event combines a top-shelf youth ice hockey skills competition with a powerful grassroots, youth oriented community outreach program.

Supported by the NHL, this competition has been created to showcase the glory of the human spirit both on the ice and through our charitable partnership with the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation.

Got Skills is the ultimate challenge for Squirt and Pee Wee aged youth ice hockey players.  It is a place for them to push themselves to their limits and to test themselves against their peers from around the country.  When it's over, each player will know who is the best of the best on the ice (the fastest skater, hardest shot, most accurate shot, breakaways shoot-out, best goaltender, and the SI for Kids 'Top Skills' award winner which is given to the best overall scores).  Each participant will be secure in the fact that his/her efforts on that day have contributed to a greater good and helped a child less fortunate than him/herself.

Congratulations again to Anthony for a great job.  To read more about the Got Skills Competition, click HERE…
