Tier II - U12

Saturday, February 4, 2006    Hitmen Win State in Wild Finish to Crazy Weekend...

Hitmen - 5, Ice Jets - 4 (OT):  In a wild finish to an unbelievable day, the Houston Hitmen recovered from a last second tying goal in regulation to score in the first overtime to beat the Ice Jets '93 AA in the Championship Game of the Tier II U12 Texas State Championships Sunday afternoon at Polar Ice in Grapevine.

With Houston leading 4-3 with only 6.1 seconds left in the 3rd period, the Ice Jets won a face-off to the left of the Houston goalie, and slipped a backhander five-hole to tie the game at 4-4 with only 2.3 seconds left.  The Hitmen then got the puck deep in the first minute of OT, and converted a pass from behind the net into the game winner, and the right to be the Texas representative to the Tier II U12 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Denver March 9-12.

Earlier in the morning, Houston had to score with only :00.2 left in their game with Alliance to earn a 2-2 tie, and throw the State Championships into unknown territory as all 4 teams still remained tied at the end of pool play.

After following the tie-breaking procedures and still coming up empty, a call to the USA Hockey headquarters in Colorado resulted in a round-robin shootout to determine the finalists.  In not the best way, but apparently the only way, the shoot-out that ensued determined that the Houston Hitmen and the Ice Jets '93 AA would play the in the Championship Game.

Tier II - U14

Sunday, February 12, 2006    Ice Jets Take State with Win over Wild...

Ice Jets - 4, Wild - 2:    The Ice Jets and the Wild battled back and forth throughout the game, but the Jets broke a 2-2 tie with 2 goals in the 3rd period and captured the Tier II U14 State Championship Sunday afternoon at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.  The Ice Jets would take leads a 1-0 and 2-1, only to have the Wild tie the game each time with goals of their own.  The Wild came into the Final undefeated in the tournament, having beaten the Jets 4-3 in pool play, but the Ice Jets played well and won when it counted most.  The Ice Jets will advance as the Texas Representative to the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Denver March 9-12.

Saturday, February 11, 2006    Houston in Final, Awaiting Stars or Ice Jets...

Stars - 4, Alliance - 3:    The Stars broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal with only 2:09 remaining in the 3rd period, and with the win stayed in contention to advance to the Championship of the Tier II U14 Division at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.   The Stars can advance to the final with a win over the Ice Jets on Sunday morning, and with the loss, Alliance has been eliminated from contention of advancing.

Houston Wild - 4, Ice Jets - 3:    In a close and exciting game, the Wild edged the Ice Jets and will advance to the Championship Game of the Tier II U14 Division on Sunday afternoon, regardless of the result of their game against Alliance on Sunday morning.   The Ice Jets must beat or tie the Stars on Sunday morning to gain a berth in the Final.

Ice Jets - 3, Alliance - 0:    The Ice Jets broke open a close 1-0 game with 2 goals early in the 3rd period, and made it stand up for a shutout win over Alliance in the first game for both teams of the Tier II U14 Division at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.   Read more HERE...

Houston Wild - 3, Stars - 1:    Despite being out-shot heavily, the Stars hung in there, trailing only 2-1 after 2 periods, but the Wild added an insurance tally in the final period to win 3-1 in the other game of the Tier II U14 Division on Saturday morning.

Tier II - U16

Sunday, February 12, 2006    Wild Sweeps 4 Games in Route to State Title...

Wild - 5, Stars - 3:    The Houston Wild swept through the Tier II U16 Division undefeated in four games, and captured the State Championship with a win over the Stars Sunday afternoon at Polar Ice in Grapevine.   After taking a 3-1 lead late in the 2nd period, the Wild had to withstand 2 late goals by the Stars at the end of the period and a 3-3 tie going into the final period of play, when they would add 2 more for the win.  The Wild will now advance as the Texas Representative to the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Denver March 9-12.

Saturday, February 11, 2006    Nothing is Decided in this Division Yet...

Stars - 6, Alliance - 1:    The Stars took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period, and extended it to 4-1 after 2 periods, and Alliance never recovered in the second game for each team in the Tier II U16 Division of the 2006 Texas State Championships on Saturday afternoon.   After Alliance cut the lead to 3-1 on a power play with just 1:44 left in the 2nd, they remained on the power play, threatening to make it a one-goal game.  The Stars would have none of it, and got the goal back with a shorthanded breakaway tally to bring the margin back to three at 4-1 with 1:05 left in the second period.  The Stars would add 2 more in the final frame to stay in contention for the final.

Houston Wild - 7, DJHA - 2:    The Wild remained unbeaten at 2-0 with a solid win over the DJHA Penguins, and hold control of their own destiny to advance to the final of the Tier II U16 Division.  Houston can advance with a tie or win over Alliance on Sunday morning.  The results of both games Sunday morning could would present a 2 or 3-way tie and if so, it's off to the tie-breakers we go.

Alliance - 4, DJHA - 2:    The DJHA Penguins kept responding, but came up short at the end, as Alliance held on late, adding an empty netter to ice the game in the Tier II U16 Division opener for both teams at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.   The Bulldogs took leads of 1-0 at the end of the 1st period and 2-1 at the end of the 2nd, only to have the Penguins come back and tie the score each time, the last time making it 2-2 on their first shot of the final frame.

Houston Wild - 9, Stars - 2:    The Wild came out flying in this one, and cruised to a convincing win over the Stars in the first game for both teams in the Tier II U16 Division on Saturday morning.

Tier II - U18

Sunday, February 12, 2006    Alliance Takes State with 3-0-1 Mark...

Alliance - 4, Aeros - 2:    Alliance beat the Aeros in back-to-back games on Sunday, and take home the Tier II U18 State Championship for the 3rd consecutive year.     After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 early in the 2nd, but tied it up shortly thereafter for a 1-1 score at the 7:08 mark.  The teams would trade goals again within 10 seconds of one another at the 5:57 and 5:47 marks to make the score 2-2

Alliance would get the eventual game winner with only 1:49 left in the 2nd, on a nice play into the slot and a wrist shot high to the glove side to make it 3-2 going into the final frame.  The Bulldogs would add an insurance tally with just 3:32 remaining, and hold that lead to the end.  The Bulldogs will now advance as the Texas Representative to the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Denver March 9-12.

Saturday, February 11, 2006    Alliance, Aeros in Driver Seat for Now...

Alliance - 3, Aces - 2:    In another really tight game, Alliance finally decided there were already enough ties for the day, and scored with only 28 seconds remaining in the final period to take home a win in the Tier II U18 Division of the 2006 Texas State Championships on Saturday night.   Alliance can advance to the Final with a tie or a win over the Aeros on Sunday morning.

Aeros Beat Austin:   The Aeros beat Austin in the other Tier II U18 Division game on Saturday afternoon, but the score was unavailable at the time this was posted.  Houston can advance to the Final with a tie or a win over Alliance on Sunday morning.

Alliance - 2, Austin - 2:    No one could help but think of the U12 Chaos from last weekend caused by a bunch of ties, but someone forgot to tell the Midget Majors, as Alliance and Austin battled to a tie in the Tier II U18 Division opener for both teams at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.

Texas Aces - 1, Houston Aeros - 1:    Same song, second verse as both teams stayed with the theme, and the Texas Aces and the Aeros also ended up tied in the other Tier II U18 Division game on Saturday morning.

Tier I - U16

Sunday, February 12, 2006    Bulldogs Win State with 3-Goal Comeback in Another OT Thriller...

Alliance - 4, Ice Jets - 3 (OT):    After falling behind the Ice Jets 3-0 late in the 2nd period, things looked bleak for the Bulldogs.   But a goal with only 1:06 left in the 2nd to make it 3-1 going into the final period kick-started the Bulldogs to a stunning 3-goal comeback that ended with an overtime win and their 2nd consecutive Tier I U16 State Championship.

Trailing 3-2 with only 14 seconds left in regulation, the Bulldogs used their 6 on 3 advantage to screen the Ice Jet goalie from a shot from the blue-line that hit the back of the net to tie the score at 3-3 with :09.3 showing on the game clock.  Alliance would then take their 4 on 3 power play into overtime and score the championship winner in the first minute of the extra period.  Both the Bulldogs and the Ice Jets will advance to the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Phoenix March 2-5.    Read updated report HERE...

Saturday, February 11, 2006     Alliance Stays Alive with OT Win in Game 2...

Alliance - 2, Ice Jets - 1 (OT):    In a complete reversal from last night, both teams played tight defense and got outstanding goaltending, but the Bulldogs stay alive in the Best of 3 Series with the game winning goal just 1:07 into the first overtime.  Alliance came out ready to redeem themselves for the Game 1 loss, and were all over the Ice Jets with 10 shots to the Jets 1 in the first period.  It appeared the Jets would survive the flurry, but Alliance took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal with only 1:59 remaining in the opening frame on a shot from the point along the ice that was re-directed in front and past the Jet goalie.  Read more HERE...

Friday, February 10, 2006     Alliance Drops Game 1...

Ice Jets - 7, Alliance - 4:    Despite an early advantage in energy and shots, the Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 less than 8 minutes in, spent the rest of the game chasing the Ice Jets, and were unable to overtake them and fell in Game 1 of their Best of 3 Series Friday night at the 2006 Texas State Championships being held at Polar Ice in the Grapevine Mills Mall.   The Jets now take their 1-0 series lead into Game 2 Saturday night, with a chance to take the State Championship with a win in the 8:00pm start.  Read more HERE...

Tier I - U18

Sunday, February 12, 2006    Stars Win State Championship with Shutout...

Stars - 2, DJHA - 0:    After a scoreless 1st period, the Dallas Stars would take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period, and get an insurance power play goal in the 3rd to defeat the pesky DJHA Penguins and capture the Tier I U18 State Championship at Polar Ice Sunday afternoon.  In a tight game with good defense and quality goaltending, the Stars would keep DJHA out of the net to collect the shutout.  The Stars now advance as the Texas Representative to the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships in Phoenix March 2-5

Saturday, February 11, 2006    DJHA Takes Game 2 in OT, Series Tied at 1-1...

DJHA - 2, Stars - 2 (OT):    It was a morning of ties at Polar Ice, but it was a night of overtimes, as Game 2 of the Tier I U18 Division series between the Dallas Stars and the DJHA Penguins went to OT just like their Tier I U16 brethren.   It was also the team needing the win to stay alive that came out on top, with the Penguins getting the game winner only 29 seconds into the extra period of play.  With the series now tied at 1 win apiece, the Championship will be decided in Game 3 at 3:10pm Sunday afternoon at Polar Ice.

Friday, February 10, 2006    Stars Take 1-0 Series Lead...

Stars - 5, DJHA - 2:    The Tier I U18 Division kicked off the weekend starting Friday night, as the Dallas Stars beat the DJHA Penguins in Game 1 in their best of 3 series at Polar Ice in Grapevine.  The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to have the Penguins come back with 2 straight goals to make a game of it at 3-2 entering the 3rd period.  The Stars increased their lead to 4-2 in the 3rd, and added an empty net goal for the final 5-2 score.

The Stars now take their 1-0 series lead into Game 2 Saturday night, with a chance to take the State Championship with a win in the 8:00pm start.
