Alliance Wins Dallas Cup U16 Tier I AAA Championship!!!

The Alliance Bulldogs defended their 2005 Championship, capturing the 2006 Dallas Cup Tier I AAA Championship Game with a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon over the Colorado Thunderbirds '89 in a tight game decided with tough defense, good penalty killing and outstanding goaltending

Both teams came into the final undefeated, and it was the first win this season over the 5th Ranked T'Birds in 4 tries for the Bulldogs, who lost to these same Thunderbirds in the final of their King of the Rockies (KOR) Tournament back in October.  This tournament was also a warm-up for the 2006 Rocky Mountain District Championships, as all 6 RMD Tier I U16 teams played in this year's Dallas Cup.  The 11th Ranked Bulldogs finish the tournament 5-0-0, and improved their overall season record to 27-11-5.

Chicago Takes Tier II Dallas Cup...

Congratulations to the Chicago Flames, Dallas Cup Invitational 2006 Tier II AA Champions, 3-2 winners over the Houston Wild  in a very close and competitive Championship Game Sunday afternoon at Polar Ice in Grapevine.  The Flames, coming into the tournament Ranked #1 by the National Hockey Rankings web site, went undefeated for the weekend at 5-0-0.

About Alliance Hockey...

The Alliance Youth Hockey Association (AYHA) was originally established with 3 teams for the 2001-2002 season to provide an elite travel program at the Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam levels.  Since then, they have continued to upgrade their offerings, both in quantity and quality, as they now currently field 9 teams at the A, AA, and AAA levels, with several teams competing at the highest levels on a national basis.

In their first 4 seasons, Alliance has sent 5 teams to the USA Hockey National Championships, won 5 Rocky Mountain District Championships, won 8 State Championships, and won 9 League Championships.  The U14 and U12 teams each brought home Bronze Medals from the 2004 National Championships.

Last season (2004-2005), Alliance added Tier I teams for the first time, and both teams (U14 and U16) won their respective Rocky Mountain District Championship and advanced to the USA Hockey Nationals.  Alliance’s primary strength they have become known for in the hockey community is their high quality, experienced, and professional coaching.

Just like their AAA Bulldog brethren, this year’s Midget Minor AA Bulldogs come into the season with plenty of important game experience as well, as 8 players have competed in one or both of the last 2 USA Hockey National Championships.  They also have their hands full this year trying to keep up with last year’s squad, which won 5 tournaments, including the District Championship, and finished with an overall record of 47-11-2.

This group of Bulldogs have done just fine thus far this season, having dominated league play with only one loss in 13 games, and have consistently been ranked in the National Top 10.  They use their quickness, skating ability, and puck movement to keep their opponents out of position and chasing.  Combined with quality goaltending and aggressive play, the Bulldogs present a formidable challenge for most U16AA teams.  This tournament will give the Bulldogs an opportunity to face some good competition to sharpen their game prior to the State Championships coming up in February.

About Alliance Coach David Fry...

In his first season with the Alliance Youth Hockey Association, Dave led the Alliance Midget Minor A team to the 2003 Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins Thanksgiving Tournament Finals, 2004 Colorado Springs MLK Tournament Championship, and the 2004 President's Day Nashville Tournament Championship.  He also led his 2003-2004 team to the 2004 Texoma Midget A Playoff Championship.

In 2004-2005, he led his Midget Minor AA Team to the Texoma Championship with a league and playoff record of 19-1, to the Tier II U16 State Championship, the USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District Championship, and to the 2005 U16 Tier II USA Hockey National Championships in Richmond, Virginia.

After a professional hockey career that was recently with the Fort Worth Brahmas of the Central Hockey League, Dave was named as Head Coach of the Allen High School Varsity Hockey Team.  He led his team to an impressive undefeated regular season in 2003-2004, and they are currently in 1st place of Section 1 of the Gold Division in the SBC High School League, sporting an 11-1-0 record.

About Houston Wild Hockey...

The Houston Wild is affiliated with the Houston Junior Aeros Hockey Association (HJAHA), which was initially formed in the mid-1970’s. HJAHA is governed by a set of bylaws and rules that are managed by a volunteer board of directors with representatives from each of its 14 teams (Mite to Midget Major). The most skilled HJAHA teams at the AA level and Peewee, Bantam, Midget Minor, and Midget Major age divisions play as the “Houston Wild”.

Wild teams participate in the AA divisions of NTXHL, and play in AAA and AA invitational tournaments throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Houston Wild teams will play 45-50 games this season, which includes league play (~25 games) as well as invitational tournaments in Chicago, Colorado, Hershey, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, and Vancouver to name a few.  Houston Wild teams have won 1 State Championship and 4 League Championships, while HJAHA teams have won nearly 30 League Championships.  Houston Wild U14 and U16 teams are currently ranked 27th and 45th in the country, respectively.

More information about the Houston Wild and HJAHA can be found at www.junioraeros.com.

About the 2005-2006 Houston Wild U16AA Team...

The 2005-06 “Wild Bunch” began the season with May tryouts, summer clinics, and routine practices in August.  This year’s squad touts lots of experience with 14 of the 18 players who were born in 1989 and have played together for years on ice and inline teams.  Three players born in 1990 played on last year’s League Championship U14 team, while another played for Shattuck’s in Nationals last year.

This year’s Wild Minor AA team offers balanced scoring throughout its three forward lines, stingy defense by talented and sizable 1989 players, and top tier goaltending from both goalies.  Other attributes include quickness, deft passing, and a strong sense of teamwork.  One early season highlight was a win over last year’s Tier II U14 National Champion VOSHA team from Phoenix.

About Wild Coach Mike Baum...

Mike played youth hockey while growing up in Hershey, PA.  He also played NCAA Div-I hockey at St Lawrence University, and Minor professional hockey in the Phoenix Roadrunners organization.  Mike is currently certified through Level 4 by USA Hockey and has coached youth hockey teams for nearly 25 years at Mite to Midget Major age levels.

Mike was the first head coach of the Houston Wild Bantam AA team when it played in the STHL league during the Wild’s inaugural 2002-03 season.   Mike has coached several Wild teams since, including last year’s U16 AA team that finished in 2nd place in Texoma league play.

Mike coaches youth hockey in order to share his experiences as a player who competed at a high level.

About Quakers Hockey…

The Quaker Youth Ice Hockey Association was established in the early 70’s and was one of the first Clubs in the Delaware Valley (Pennsylvania).  They are a member of the Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL) and the Atlantic District of USA Hockey.

In 1994, the Quakers moved to their current home at the triple-rink complex at Ice Line in West Chester, PA which was large enough to accommodate their growing organization. In 2002, Ice Line also grew and is now the “Quad” home rink of the Quakers.

Since the early 70’s, the Quakers have seen significant growth. At the start, they had approximately 70 players. Currently, the Quakers have over 400 players registered for the 2005/2006 season.  They have 19 travel teams which include:  Girls 12U, 14U, 16U, 19U (Tier 1 & 2), 2 Mite, 4 Squirt, 4 Pee Wee, 4 Bantam and 5 Midget teams.  In addition to the travel teams, they run a full cross-ice program that includes approximately 60 players.

Quaker teams have consistently competed for DVHL and Atlantic District titles.  Last year, Quaker teams won 6 DVHL titles, 5 Atlantic District titles, and advanced 2 teams to the USA Hockey Nationals.

About the 2005-2006 Quakers 16U AA Team…

This year’s Quaker 16U AA team entered the season with plenty of big game experience.  Each player on the team competed in last season’s Atlantic District Championships or USA Nationals.  The Quakers have spent most of the season highly ranked, and are currently ranked 8th nationally.   The goal for this year’s team is to win the DVHL, win the Atlantic District and qualify for the USA Nationals in Pittsburgh.

About Quakers coach Dave Dorman…

This is Dave’s 2nd season coaching in the Quakers organization. Dave, a native of the Philadelphia area, brings a great deal of experience in player and skill development.

During his career, Dave played at the New England Division I Prep, Junior A, and the Collegiate level.  Dave has been a professional instructor for the past 5 years. Dave has worked with Turcotte, Robbie Glantz, Rick Heinz and is a consultant for IHCP (Czech Republic).  Dave currently owns “The Edge Sports Training Center” located at The Skating Club of Wilmington, DE.  The Center specializes in year-round on and off-ice training.

About Chesterfield Hockey...

The Chesterfield Hockey Association (CHA) was founded in 1995 as a not-for-profit corporation established for the development and operation of amateur youth hockey in far west St. Louis County, Missouri.   Chesterfield Hockey prides itself on providing year-round developmental opportunities and a full spectrum of hockey programs from Learn-To-Play, to some of the most competitive leagues in the country. Our mission is to be the best Tier II club in the area, and to develop and advance deserving players to Tier I careers with the AAA Amateur Blues, our affiliate club.

CHA enrolls about 530 players each fall season, and hundreds more in our spring and 3 on 3 leagues.   This makes it one of the largest youth hockey clubs in the area. This season, CHA is hosting eighteen travel and eight recreational teams competing in the Missouri Amateur Hockey League. Seven additional elite-level teams compete in the Chicago-based Central States Developmental Hockey League, a Tier II program administered by the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois.

CHA  has won numerous state and regional titles in its short ten years of existence.  In 2003, CHA sent its first team to the USAH Tier II National Championship, where the PeeWee CSDHL team brought home Silver under the tutelage of NHL alum Basil McRae.  That same team brought home Gold from the prestigious Sarnia AAA Silver Stick, and took second in Toronto’s AAA Bell Cup that same year.  Thirteen of those players went on to claim the 2005 Tier I National Championship, as members of the Amateur Blues organization, which is competing in this year’s Tier I Alliance tournament.

Chesterfield is fortunate to have many NHL and college-level alumni coaching their teams.  Along with McRae, future Hall of Famer Al MacInnis, veterans Todd Ewen, Rob Ramage, Kelly Chase, Tony Twist, Rick Zombo, Mike Zuke, Dale Hawerchuk, Perry Turnbull, Lonnie Loach and Hall of Famer Bernie Federko have all coached at CHA.

About the Falcons U16 CSDHL Team...

Most of the twenty-man roster has played at the CSDHL and AAA level, and simultaneously occupy rosters of Missouri’s top high school programs.  The team currently occupies the CSDHL’s fourth place position, and has earned a spot in the league playoffs to be held in early February.   Balancing schoolwork and multiple team responsibilities, each member of the team is committed to improving their hockey skills and sense of team play.  The Falcons are coming to Dallas for the purpose of playing against the nation’s best teams, in preparation for playoffs.

Falcon Coaching Staff...

Native St. Louisan Jon Rogger is serving as Salcon head coach in his inaugural year at CHA.  After playing four years at Division I Ferris State, Jon spent a few years coaching AAA in Michigan, and began instructing professionally at Cavanaugh’s Developmental Hockey Program, where he continues today.  Jon also coaches the Parkway Central High School varsity team.

Assistant Coach Andy Strickland cashed in on his AAA Amateur Blues playing successes to become a professional announcer with renown KMOX Radio, and most recently ESPN radio, where he covers professional sports as a morning co-host.  Andy is in his first year of coaching at CHA.  Consequently, Andy competed against Jon when they were in high school.

Both coaches hold advanced coaching cards, and are very dedicated to the development of each and every one of their players.
